Carry a card?

Do any of you who have had the DS carry a card in your wallet/purse that show what your new "insides" look like? I have an upcoming surgery planned and I think carrying this card with me to show other doctor visits if needed would be a good idea. If you have one, where can I get one similar? I would hate to be on my death bed down the road and the doctors don't know what to do with me lol!

Wow, this is a great idea!  If there isnt something, there should be, and I want one to.  I guess a person could always wear an I.D. bracelett like the diabetics do..  Great Idea, looking forward to what everyone has to say....

There is one that you can print out and laminate that can be found here: http://www.dsfacts.com/ds-emergency-card.html

My dh and I use these...we each have one.

My surgeon gave me the card.  I carry that and his business card with me everywhere.  It is as important to me as a credit card, cash, and insurance card.  As I get further out from surgery, I don't recall all the intricate details of what the DS looks like in my body.  Even if I could recall it, if I am not conscious in an emergency, it would do me know good.  Check with your surgeon.

I have one of those and a card from my doctor telling restaurants that I need to order from the kid menu to please allow me to due to my surgery.

My surgeon had one available on his group listserv. I carried it with me for years.  I don't hear about these as much as I did long ago.  The most important thing is that you and someone who can be your advocate in the event you are not able to speak understand your configuration and what is different.  Also that time-released medications are impacted by your malabsorption and that NSAIDS should not be administered unless necessary.  If they are administered, cytotec should be administered with them to protect your stomach.
