Carry a card?
Dee
There is one that you can print out and laminate that can be found here: http://www.dsfacts.com/ds-emergency-card.html
My dh and I use these...we each have one.
Duodenal Switch (Lap) 01-24-11 | Surgeon: Stephen Boyce | High weight: 250 in 2002 | Surgery weight: 203 | Lowest weight: 121 | Current weight: 135 | Goal weight: 135
My surgeon gave me the card. I carry that and his business card with me everywhere. It is as important to me as a credit card, cash, and insurance card. As I get further out from surgery, I don't recall all the intricate details of what the DS looks like in my body. Even if I could recall it, if I am not conscious in an emergency, it would do me know good. Check with your surgeon.
My surgeon had one available on his group listserv. I carried it with me for years. I don't hear about these as much as I did long ago. The most important thing is that you and someone who can be your advocate in the event you are not able to speak understand your configuration and what is different. Also that time-released medications are impacted by your malabsorption and that NSAIDS should not be administered unless necessary. If they are administered, cytotec should be administered with them to protect your stomach.
Here is one our member levittown_loser shared with everyone on the site.
