BMR
I have never heard of anyone getting the BMR to qualify for DS surgery. Just about everything you said, is contra to what I have read. That's a nice way of saying that I think you got the run around.
A WLS surgeon is not going to recommend a surgery that they can't perform. Period. A Buick salesman will not try and sell you a Ford. The same is true with the WLS surgeons.
You don't mention what kind of surgery you had before. Rny? A lot of people have revised from the rny to the DS, but it takes an experienced surgeon. Check out the revision board as well and see who had the same surgery you desire, who their surgeon was, and what kind of results they had.
If you are an rny to DS revisionist, there are only a couple of surgeons that are recommended. Dr. Ari K? (I wont try and spell it), and another.
There are a lot of revisionists here who can point you in the right direction. They will chime in. There are also a lot of revisionists on the other DS site. Google proboards and weightlosssurgery.
It is scary how many revisions people are getting these days. That's why DSers push so hard for a DS the first time around.
Best wishes.
It would help to know for sure, I think. It might not mean anything to insurance companies but I'd want to know. Have you checked out www.dsfacts.com? There is a list of trusted DS surgeons there. Perhaps the docs you've talked to don't want you to consider the DS or don't want you to know it's not your fault.

I had it done as part of a medical study for free. It was very interesting but all it really did was prove what *I* already knew. Yes, I was/am extremely metabolically challenged and would always have weight problems. Either you learn to live with lifelong deprivation or adjust to the fact that you will always be somewhat 'fluffy'.
Sad and it certainly isn't fair but few things in life are fair. The flip side of this is since you are a superabsorber you won't have big trouble with vitamin/supplement deficiencies.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with an extremely expensive test because they can't fix the problem. For today you and I are stuck with it!
Wow. You sound like you went to see all my doctors and specialist they referred me to! And what a crock they all fed me. I knew my body, and when I was down to 800 calories and exercising till the machine said I burned 400 calories 4 times a week - I knew something was wrong. And I was low carbing while keeping total calories low, and still could not budge lower than 200 lbs. Every year I would have to cut my carbs/calories just to keep it at a 5-7 lb gain for the year.
And they all kept telling me "a calorie is a calorie", and "you just have bad genes, and will have to work 3 times as hard as everyone else to lose the weight and keep it off".
Go through the list of co-morbidities and start testing for them. Do you have sleep apnea?
I got so tired of the insurance/PCP/Endo run around on this issue, and them telling me I didn't weigh enough to warrent WLS! I self paid. Then I picked the perfect surgeon - Dr. Ara Keshishian in Los Angeles, CA
You are going to have to get really creative and determined on this. It is everyone's job to stop you from spending their money on WLS. They are going to tell you no in 50 different ways. You need to start exploring all options.
