Day 6 - sugar free popsicles

I'm feeling so much better today. It still sucks not getting all of my fluids in but I made it up to 35 ounces today and almost 30 grams of protein (2 packets).

I want to eat food so bad thought. Everything looks good except this damn protein powder. I have several different kinds, but I'm just over drinking. I feel doomed. I'd LOVE a yogurt right now. I did end up going to the store and getting sugar free popsicles and it really was an awesome treat. Still just more liquid and I know it doesn't do much for hydration but it was sort of satisfying. My stomach did rumble a lot with each popsicle so I'm wondering if that is normal and why? I never had any issues with ice chips. Is it because of the sugar alcohols? I remember reading posts that said we don't tolerate sugar alcohols very well and I noticed there was a little in the popsicles.

Any suggestions for places to find recipes or ideas for pureed foods for when I get to that stage. I hope the next week goes by fast!

On a positive note even though I don't feel awesome right now, I am one of those people constantly stepping on the scale and I have lost 9 pounds since my surgery on Monday.

The Baked Ricotta at the link below is pretty good. It tastes like lasagna without noodles. You might have to copy and paste the link.

Thank you so much. I've scrolled through a little of this link so far and feel so much better about hitting the pureed time. Refried beans with melted cheese even sounds amazing right now. I just have to make it another week before I can switch to pureed.

What sweetener did the popsicles contain? Most of us do OK with Splenda or stevia. Avoid anything with itol on the end as that causes a lot of us issues.

Why can't you have yogurt?  Every surgeon is different, but I could eat soft foods as soon as I was out of the hospital.  I did enjoy sugar free popsicles for a bit, but the sugar alcohols bothered me.

Truthfully, your diet will be on a roller coaster for a while.  Sugar alcohols may seem ok, then they will bother you.  I did ok with milk early on, then became lactose intolerant.  Sometimes it almost seemed it was a day-to-day thing.

I also used a prescription anti-acid, though I can't recall which one.  I needed tums or a while too.  Don't be surprised if your time and energy becomes fixated on your body and diet.  I remember thinking that after taking care of the house, the family, and work, and everything else for so many years, it was nice to be able to focus on ME for a change!

My surgeon has us on liquid only for two weeks post op. I can't wait to go back to work so I spend fewer hours a day focusing on food.

Sounds like you're doing great!  Yes, I bet the rumbles were from the sugar alcohols, and maybe just getting some peristalsis back!  I think it's awesome that you're even thinking about food.....I could never have those thoughts my first week.  Keep up the good work....it's true what they say- this will all soon be a distant memory!

I remember those two weeks of liquid so well - mine happened right at Christmas so it was truly torture.  I remember having dreams about solid food the whole time!  I know it doesn't make it easier, but time does pass, and you'll be eating "real" food soon.  Enjoy the liquid diet because you'll have the best weight loss during this time too!

Hang in there - and enjoy the ride!!

Thanks its really nice to hear I'm not the only one already wanting real food. It makes me feel like a failure already dying for food and only 8 days post op.
