Two week liquid diet questions...

So apologies ahead of time if these might seems like stupid questions but I'm trying to order what I need before I have to start my liquid diet so I can buy it all at a better price than purchasing in the Dr's office....

I'm having surgery (revision) with Dr Kim on 9/9. I start my liquid diet on 8/26. Does anyone know if all we can have is the Fortify Nutrition protein powder or can we supplement with other liquids like, I don't know, chicken broth or egg drop soup?  What is the recommended regime - 3 protein shakes a day? 5?

I know I can call his office but I'd rather have input from you all as I'm always a little wary of businesses pushing their own opinions on me for the betterment of their bottom line.

Thanks!!!

I was only required to do liquids for one day pre-op on my DS. I basically drank broth for an entire day. Then nothing after midnight the day before surgery. But when I got my sleeve (different surgeon) I had to do a 2-week full liquid diet, starting on Thanksgiving. So it really depends on the surgeon. Some require you to buy their products but I'm not sure they are any better than liquids you could buy elsewhere.

All the Doctors seem different.

My Doctor let me do Glucose Control Boost. My list also included Hi Protein Slim Fast and Atkins Advantage.

2 weeks?  That seems outrageous to me.  I realize that all surgeons have their own protocol.  I had to do 5 days, and thought that was rough!

Good luck!

Mine had 10 day of liquid pre-surgery, but allowed that all he was really looking for was a 10 lb or so weight loss for the surgery. The less fat on the liver, the easier it is on you and the surgeon.

I did broth, jello, protein drinks, soups,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I have been out of town.  With Dr Kim, you will start the protein powders 2 weeks before surgery.  You will be able to have Low Sodium Chicken Broth during the 2 weeks before surgery also, and any no calorie drinks while limiting the caffeine intake.  If I remember correctly you will be able to have 3 shakes with low fat milk or 5 shakes if made with water.  I liked the shakes better with milk and was not too hungry.  Days 2 thru 4 were the worst part after that it gets better!!
