Clear Liquid Diet - Suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

I need to be on clear liquids the day before my surgery. My plan is to drink lots of water and eat (drink?) clear chicken broth. But I'm afraid that I'm going to be starving!

Is water and broth all you guys had during your "clear liquids" stage? And if so, how did you manage the hunger?

Water, tea, and broth for me. Too worked up over the surgery to get hungry.

I hope you have a smooth and quick post op recovery.

Cheers.

Thanks, everyone!

Dr. K has his patients do two days of a liquid diet and one day of a clear liquid diet before surgery. And I have to drink a bottle of that dreaded Magnesium Citrate. Good times! devil

Yuppers....chicken broth, water, 7up, lemon Jello.

Nothing red or orange or blue/purple...it stains things up so the surgeon can't see structures well enough. And, they're going to use a blue dye to check for leaks in your new stomach, so things could get confusing!

As for my surgeon, the only thing I had to do was stop anything by mouth after 8 pm. I don't remember clear liquids until post-op, then that was only for a short time until I "graduated" to soft foods, well cooked meats...and protein shakes, of course.

It's only one day...but...if you're diabetic, you may have different instructions, so double-check with the surgeon about that.

As for the hunger..I was too nervous to eat, anyway!
