Fistula surgery after bpdds

I had a bpdds a few years ago and lost about 130 pounds. I had developed a " massive" number of internal hemmaroids which I had a stapling procedure. After I had 2 bouts of pancreatitis and now I was diagnosed with anorecto abscess with fistulas. I had 8 seton drains placed and was tested for crohns which led to a false positive. Now my colorectal surgeon is going to perform a fistulotomy. Has anybody gone through this? I wanted a temporary colostomy because I go to the bathroom 4-7 times a day. The doctor thinks its overkill and says he will consider it if the 7" wound doesn't heal after a few weeks . It already burns like hell and I'm taking morphine like pez. Anybody been through this or have any words of encouragement or advice. By the way I'm taking all my supplements, been watching my diet and have had multiple opinions and all my doctors including the ds doctor have been consulting each other to get the best outcome. I'm just a bit nervous and would love to know what I could excpct.

There are a lot of "technical" people on the other board and I know there has been discussion about fistulas there as well.  Google proboards and weightlosssurgery.

Also, you might try and do a search on this site with some of the dianoses/terms you have used above.

I don't often hear of people going to the bathroom 4-7 times a day if you are taking your supplements and eating well.  How much calcium are you taking?  I hope at least 2000 mg of calcium citrate or the form found in Bone Booster Complex.

It doesn't surprise me to hear about hemms and fistulas if you are going so frequently.  I think the frequency needs to be addressed first, as my guess is, that is the true cause of your problems.

Those are my thoughts, though I am no expert.  I hope you get relief soon.

I remember that some one on this board, use to take chia seeds because she would go so frequently.  I sometime have days when I will go 7 times and then next day maybe only 2 times.  It varies. But I have not had the internal problems you have.  Some times I eat a half of a bananna and recently started taking 1/2 teaspoon chia seeds occasionaly.  Hope you get this figured out!

I had some recurring rectal surgeries.  I sympathize with you totally.  I would suggest that you view the posts on the forum at United Ostomy Associations of America

 https://www.ostomy.org/forum/index.php

There are a lot of people who post there regularly that know first hand what you are facing, and will probably have suggestions and support.  There are posters who have Crohn's (I know you said the test was negative, but regardless, these folks certainly do know about fistulas), folks who have had ostomies done for the purpose of allowing fistulas to heal, and folks who have had temporary colostomies and have had successful reconnection (takedown, it is called).

Once you've gotten input from people who have faced the same problems, you might be able to make the decision that is right for you.  I have a colostomy, so I do understand the concerns that you have.  I hope you will post back about your progress.
