I haven't been here for a while. about 90 days ago I started plateauing and I knew it happens so I just went with it. Played some games, ate TERRIBLY, ice cream, drinking (non-carbonated, the hard stuff!), still no breads or cookies (that crap kills me). The days on end eating perfectly. My weight fluctuated about 6 pounds the entire 3 months. but thats better then the 15 pounds it used to fluctuate before DS surgery.

Levoxyl has been recalled for some total BS reason. I had a 3 month mail in prescription for synthroid. On my wife's last visit to the endocrinologist, she was told synthroid is no good for people who have had bariatric surgery, She is also hypothyroid and had the sleeve done about 30 days after I had the DS. I weigh and record my weight almost daily, also keep notes about my diet, pills etc. I started plateauing right after my levoxyl ran out, just about 100 days from when I started my new meds, Tirosint. I started the Tirosint last Friday, 4 days ago, for the first time since I've been off my levoxyl I am losing weight again. I lost 4.5 pounds since last Friday and am at a new post surgery low of 247.5

Coincidence?, I think not.

Im almost three months out and take Synthroid.  I researched this quite a bit before surgery.  Most people take their synthroid, and all is well after surgery.  I did find one person that has to like quadruple her amount of synthroid after surgery, and has to take it many times through out the the day to keep at at the right level.  I have yet to get my three month labs, but we'll see.  They always say weight doesnt effect your doseage, but it does for me.  The lighter I am the less I need.  I am hoping to have to take less after labs....  If you know anymore about this please elaborate....  so interesting, and I want to know all.  Myself and my whole family have noticed my flares with my temper since surgery, and Ive wondered why.  My son says, "ever since you got back from Mexico your crazy"  Now Im starting to wonder if this is it....scary...

I was the opposite. All my labs before surgery were good. Then at almost a month post-op, I had to have a physical with labs for my insurance partnership promise. They had to lower my Synthroid. I'm eager to see what it is when I go for 3 month labs.

I have been on Synthroid for about 9 years.  My dosage has never changed.

My DS was Oct 2011.  My labs were done in May-ish 2012 and January 2013.  My levels have ever so slightly improved, but not enough to change any dosage.  I'm still plugging along and glad I have a couple months of Synthroid in the cupboard, though I better do some research on the recall.

I have never heard that Synthroid doesnt work for DSers, and would have to guess that the experience of others on this board, proves otherwise.

Thanks for the update on the recall.  I just read that production isn't expected until 2014.  Not what I wanted to hear.....

hi there - i've been on synthroid for over 10 years.  always the brand name, never a generic.  125 mgs worked for me, then 2 yrs ago my labs showed an increase in medication was needed.  now i am stable taking 150 mgs.

I have been seeing the same endocrinologist for 13 years and two years ago switched from Levoxyl to Armour Thyroid.  It has been a life saver!  It's natural pigs thyroid.  I'm going in for my three month check-up in two weeks and I'll be curious about my thyroid levels.  I was told that the lower my weight goes, the less medication I'll need.  I'll keep all posted.
