Mine was a personal experience. I started out with Dr. Barker. Over a two week time of tests I never once got to meet him. He was too busy. I felt like I was being rushed through an assembly line. They sent me for tests at places that did not take my insurance knowing what insurance I had. I wound up with tons of bills I could not pay. Even when I asked them if they took my insurance the answer was always yes until after the procedures. They gave me two procedures that cost a fortune and I did not even need to have them in order to have the surgery but since they were affiliated with his office and it was all billed through him it was a pushed on me...In my opinion He runs a Cash assembly line. He is not very personable and his staff were pushy.

I was also told by his staff that he was the most experienced and TOP DS surgeon in Texas. When in fact he has done very little DS. When I found out that Dr. Stewart actually trained him and brought it up they lied and got pissy with me and said that it was not true. They treated me like **** when I switched surgeons and delayed all my paper work on purpose. I then received multiple phone calls pretty much telling me that if I switch I prolly wont get approved because they use a different code system. Lies.

My research found many complaints about complications after his surgeries through forum posts. /shrug

Over an entire month of BS I still never met or saw the man.

That was my experience. I was glad I switched. I got to sit down and spend an hour and half with Dr. Stewart on day one. God Rest his soul.

Go with who you want. In the end it is all about who you are comfortable with. Me personally I wanted the most experienced for such a serious surgery.

Hearsay is that Dr Barker was taught to do the DS from Dr Stewart but that is just hearsay...  Also, Dr Kim was supposedly taught by Dr Stewart to do the DS.  I do not know if either of these statements are true.

I personally know 3 people who went to Dr Barker, 2 for sleeves and 1 for a conversion DS from a band.  The 2 for sleeves have had no problems, the one from the conversion band to DS has had nothing but problems.

I personally know nothing of him other than this.  Other than he has a private jet and flies around a lot.

The DFW area is probably the most political bariatric surgeon communities in the country.  The competition is fierce.

I would go to a more experienced surgeon in that realm.  Dr K, Dr Rabkin, Dr Greenbaum or Dr Sudan.  There are other Dr's in the DFW area who do the DS and are not on DSFacts, but their criteria is very strict, they won't just do it on anyone.

There is Dr Provost who is in Denton who does the DS.

I saw you wrote this and wondered how you determined these doctors were the most experienced, or where to go to find information like that. . i had a gastric bypass with Dr. Alexander in 2000 and have gained back my weight. I'm having a hard time finding out who IS the best and most experienced as i know i want to use a different doctor. Really, I haven't found much of anything except from the postings on this board.   Thanks!

Thank you everyone SO much for all your feed back! I truly really do appreciate all you feed back.  I definitely was frustrated with some that were stating (wrong) facts about Doctor Barker to other nervous patients.  I have first hand knowledge of Dr. Barker also.... I had a sleeve with him in 2008 and unlike the patient above, I met with him in every office visit I had in their office. And he's actually the one that sat down with me yesterday and explained to me what they wanted to do to my sleeve and the rest of the DS procedure.  TRUST ME, i value each and every one of your comments because i have two babies that I want to make sure I am healthy and whole for :) And a WONDERFUL husband! Barker did an amazing job on my sleeve and although i HAVE learned his vitamin regiment is WAY off for DS patients, i do think he is top notch as a surgeon..... BUT for vitamins, i will be relying on the vets on this site for support :)

Thank you again everyone and i truly hope those who are giving feedback about Barker are researching their statements first OR like most of you, are saying....IMHO .... or 'what i've heard'.. :)

Thank you all again so much! Cant wait to give you updates!!

Before you make your final decision...do this: Go to this video and ask yourself WHY a physician who could go to ANY bariatric surgeon in that area, chose NOT to go to Dr. Barker... http://www.weightlosssurgeon.com/surgical-weight-loss-result s/steve-duodenal-switch  Not only that but many of his family members also went to see Dr. Stewart NOT Baker. IF Baker was best, wouldn't they have gone to him?

Granted, you no longer have Dr. Stewart as an option but there is his partner and Dr. Kim in the area. OR you could travel out of area. Many of us do.

You say you need to be resleeved...if you do go with Barker and his crowd, make sure you HAVE in writing that it will stay a VSG and not be turned into a pouch. (A pouch with the switch guts is NOT a DS but an ERNY (Distal RNY).

Thank you so much southernlady..... I am calling FIRST thing in the morning to get more information on how many sleeve/DS revisions Barker has done and im going to look into Dr. Charlotte Hodges also because i've heard great things about her and she's in his office.  So i want to ask about her background on this revision too.  Also, I found out that Stuart (from the video) was the one that actually trained Barker.  Although Barkers office does not publicize that.  I am also going to check into Dr. Stuarts parther and see if my insurance will cover with his office like they do Barkers.

thank you again for all your help and concern!
