I take two of the 60 mg carbonyl iron daily, plus I started taking two of the Proferrin heme iron daily as well since I'm trying to get my iron numbers back up.

The proferrin heme is that prescribed by your doctor? I just found out the liquid iron I was taking from my doc was ferris sulfate and I am curious on my levels

Proferrin comes in two ways...

One is Proferrin ES and is OTC, found on the vitalady site. No prescription needed.

Two is Proferrin Forte and IS prescription but many plans do not have it on their formulary. Or if it is, it's a high co-pay.

You want ferrous fumarate not sulfate, as sulfate is very poorly absorbed even by normies.

Watch out it stains your teeth horribly. I just switched to the tablet form and seem to be absorbing that pretty well according to my labs. I take. Tender iron too but any more gives me cramps.

Be to take 3mg copper plus vitamin C at the same time too.

That's the combo I use too. I take more but definitely the right stuff.

When I was bringing my labs up I was taking 300mg of the carbonyl and 2 tablets of Proferrin every day. Numbers got to awesome levels and the dietician cut me back to 180mg of carbonyl and 1 tablet of Proferrin 3 days a week. We're watching the labs to see how well they hold.

Your surgery was a year ago.  Have you been taking iron for the past year?  I found I can't absorb any iron.  My hematologist ran iron absorption tests and we found I did not absorb the heme or the carbonyl forms of iron.  I rely on infusions.

Whatever you decide to try, if you find yourself with low iron levels, have your hema do the absorption tests.  Don't buy large quantities of iron until you know that they will work for you.

Thank you for all the responses yes I have been taking iron for the last year and my surgeon said my levels were good. I have not see. Them personally but I have been getting really fatigued lately and started paying much more attention to the boards and vets responses and decided to take my vitamins I to my own hands. Also I recently moved away from where my surgeon is located and am trying to get a better hand on what I need and information I could take into my new doctor when I get one. I am normally a pretty passive person so I'm trying to steer away from that by learning as much as I can
