NC -Should I get Duodenal Switch of Sleeve- need to lose 150 lbs.
Your success is amazing!!! I, too, think taking the pills would be much easier than dieting. I have not heard folks say they can eat that much and remain successful. Do you remember what size bougie and common channel you had? I think that can make a world of difference in how much you can eat and complications. Have you had any problems with malabsorption issues? Just sounds like, other than the vitamins, you are leading a pretty regular life..which is wonderful!
My surgeon didn't use a bougie. My surgical notes say my Sleeve was 3-5 ounces, but I can certainly eat more than that now. If I go to a steak place, I can eat a small salad, an 8-ounce ribeye, a few bites of baked potato, and a yeast roll, some dessert, and drink a glass or two of iced tea. My CC is 90 cms.
You have to remember that fat has 9 calories per gram, unlike protein or carbs with only 4 calories per gram---so a lot of calories from fat doesn't take up much room. With the DS, for every 100 calories of fat I eat, I'm only absorbing 20 calories. I eat a lot of fat. (*grin*)
I do live a very regular life, eating-wise. (*grin*) Of course, it helps that I've always preferred a high-protein, high-fat diet. Someone like my mom, who's an absolute carboholic, probably wouldn't be as happy. For example---last night we went to our Community Club pot-luck dinner. I had a generous helping of pork BBQ, some smoked chicken, some baked beans, a couple bites of cole slaw, a few bites of potato salad, and a small piece of cake. She had a BBQ sandwich, a lot of potato salad, some white beans and cornbread, and a large piece of cake. All in all, about the same volume of food, but mine was protein-heavy while hers was carb-heavy. Oh, and she had (very!) sweet tea, I had unsweetened tea---again, by personal preference.
I had my DS with Dr Rabkin 5 yrs ago. My diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol are gone. My sleeve was approx 3oz and my common channel is 100cm. I can eat more than the 3oz most of the time. Although, if I wait too long to eat, I can't eat much. I generally eat every 2 hours or so and always get in at least 100-150 g of protein daily. I take 3 batches of vitamins during the day and 2 batches in the middle of the night.
