Anyone have experience with Dr. Sudan at DUke hospital for DS?
Just wondering what your experience with doctor Sudan might be and how successful the DS surgery has been. Any complications or problems or was the surgery smooth. Has the weight loss been as well as expected.? Trying to figure out if Dr. Sudan is a good surgeon.. I have heard from someone that Dr. Sudan does not make the sleeve small enough so I'm wondering what your experience might be. Thanks so much for any input...
Dr Sudan is a well respected DS surgeon. You can't go wrong with him. See the list of trusted DS surgeons on www.DSFacts.com. Not totally up to date but a great list and excellent info on that site about living the DS life.

I had the DS almost 7 years ago with Dr. Sudan, not at Duke but at Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska when he was there. He's a great surgeon and great man. Very understanding and will listen to you and answer all your questions. I so wish he was still here in Nebraska. I've done great, highest weight was 209, got down to 107 at two years out, now I weigh in the 120-125 range and in the size 0 to 4 range and have been at that size for about 4 years! Got rid of high blood pressure and diabetic neuropathy in legs and feet. Still insulin dependent diabetic, but have been since I was 15, so won't be cured since it was juvenile onset, but have cut my insulin dosages in half or more! Love it!

I had my surgery 11 months ago with Dr. Sudan. He is great and you should have no worries with using him. I like the hospital where he operates too. You only have 1 other choice in NC for DS and Sudan is generally much better regarded than the other surgeon in Charlotte. My weight loss has been slower than most Sudan patients but that is on me. I am always a slow loser because I have punished my metabolism so much over the years. However, I am confident that I will get to where I'm going and it will just take me longer. I can't eat that much at one sitting so I would say that my sleeve is small enough.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm going to set up an appt with him to see what he says. So glad to hear that you were successful. Did you have any complications at all? Are you happy with your surgery or is the lifestyle change very drastic? I have heard some folks say they can eat carbs and tons of calories and I have heard other say just the opposite with the DS. It's sort of confusing.
