One Last Thing Before Authorization

Hey Everyone!

I'm still (not really) patiently waiting for BCBS to approve my surgery. They said it would take 15 days to get approval and on the 15th day (today!) they called my surgeon's office and said they need one last thing: a letter from my PCP giving medical clearance for the surgery. And of course, my doctor's office is closed on Wednesdays. 

Anyway, I'll be (hopefully) getting that letter tomorrow. Does anyone know if my time will reset and I'll have to wait another 15 days for approval? Or will they approve once they receive this one last thing?

They just need the final clearance and then will then hopefully approve your surgery.

Thanks! I see that you had your surgery with Dr. K.. I'm hoping I can get mine with him by the end of the month. 

What hospital were you in? I think they are working on getting me into Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

That is where I had my surgery as well. It is an excellent hospital!  You are in the best hands and you will do great!!  To be very honest the first 2 weeks are tough, and then it gets so much better.  

I am a precert nurse at an Ins company and if we are missing something we send what is referred to as a LOI which stands for a lack of information.  Technically the LOI gives us an additional 30 days to process.  However that said we never take that long and process as soon as we get the item we are missing.  All ins companies are different however I thought it might be helpful for you to know one protocol.

I had to add additional information to mine as well and they approved the next day after they recieved it.

My blood pressure was too high when I went to see my PCP this morning and she won't write a letter of medical clearance until I get it down! She said my obesity is causing my high blood pressure. Well DUH!!!!  Hahaha

I also have a UTI and she wants that cleared up before giving me the letter! Is that normal???? (I've been taking antibiotics for that since Tuesday night, so I'm hoping that's cleared up soon.

So now, I can't get that letter until I somehow get my BP down. She gave me some "emergency" BP medication to take if I go over 160/100 and she told me to take that tomorrow morning before I go to see her again. I'm hoping this is my last hurdle to getting authorized!
