Welcome. They are really helpful here. This board and all the stories is a big reason I decided to go with the DS. I'm having surgery in 12 days now and still read everything daily to learn from every here. The stories are also very inspirational and give me so much hope.

Thank you for writing!  I agree about hope.  I finally feel that I have hope for the first time in my life when it comes to my weight.  I've been overweight since about 6th grade, and all attempts to lose weight always ended up with me gaining it all back with interest.  I bought my own insurance through a State of Ohio program for people with pre-existing conditions at the end of last year because I had no coverage through work.  They didn't cover WLS, and I was so heartbroken.  Then miraculously I got an letter last month that the program was being switched to a federal program that covered every type of WLS out there!  I started making phone calls as soon as I had my new ID number.  Hope is truly an amazing thing. :)

That is so great that your insurance changed to cover WLS! Good luck with your life changing journey.

I had my Ds on 2/14/12.  Often when someone is higher in wt they tend to steer one toward the 2 part procedure.  I am a precert nurse for an ins company and after being on obesity help I wish I had the authority to reach out to members and encourage them to go with the one step DS as the gal did from the same doctor you are looking into.  I had the lap band failed and had a revision to the DS.  I paid for both and wished I never wasted my money the first time around.  I am considered a light wt so edema was not an issue and I am sure I do not suffer with the issues you are dealing with but I do  move much easier.  However I will say I have not once wished I did not have the DS procedure.  From the sound of it for the most part I don't think doctors have the best follow up and you will find this site more helpful.  Look for the doc to be the surgeon and look to this site for diet and vit supplements.  I use vitalady.

Congrats on your decision!!!
