So I've made it through my first month post op and looking forward to month 2.  I would like to ask people who are further out what  I should be working towards during this next month.

* I will be increasing my protein to 60 grams a day.

* Work on increasing my vitamin intake.  I have the Vitalady's plan, but there are sooooo many pills each day.  Should I be up to taking the full regimen each day by the second month?

* Regarding my diet, can I start introducing more meat to my diet?  If so should I still be grinding it up first?

* I want to start walking a couple times each week.  Increasing to 3 times a week in the near future.

* Hopefully my abdominal wound will finally stop draining and heal so I can wear pants and capris.

Any other thoughts about what I need to be doing?

Getting your protein up is good.

Getting more vitamins in is good.  Yea, the Vitalady plan is a lot of pills.  Do the best you can to get them down.  Don't force it though.

Introducing meat?  What does your surgeon say about your eating plan?  Each surgeon is different.  I added things to my diet as I felt good enough to eat them, and didn't have any problems.  But take it easy - hamburger is easy to eat.

Mild exercise is a good thing to work in.  Plus you will build muscles, which you will need to start doing as you lose weight.  Don't lift anything, or push/pull with vigor.

Hang in there.  The worst is over.

I was going to stick to the 30/60/120 program for protien, but it didnt work for me.  I started feeling really weak around 4 weeks out, enough to where it scared me and I thought I would have to go to the hospital.  Sorry this is a repeat of a story Ive already shared on here, but I think its so important to share, because there was a solution.  Im also on Vitaladys plan and was doing the best I could with getting in the vitamins.  Somedays were better then others thats to be expected.  Then I crashed, big time.  I was scared.  It was beyond just feeling weak.....  I didnt want to go to the hospital, because my insurance doesnt pay for bariatic care.  "I went to Mexico for my DS", Anyways, I thought to myself that the one thing I can do is up my protien, and I did.  Even before food, but I did make myself take bites of food even when it gagged me to,  I made sure I got in my 120 grams of protien.  I didnt care if I had to stay up all night to do it.  I also kep****er by me at all times, and drank it.  I have to say by day two or three of being vigilant, I was feeling better, and knew what I was doing was the right thing.  So I guess my warning is stick with your plan, but if you even start to feel weak, or strange, or not like yourself, dont wait around and wonder about it....Just get some more protien in FAST.......and water, and vitamins, and food.......Thats my story, and I stand by it...lol

I have been feeling a little weak as well.  I read your post before and I thought maybe if I up my protein it will help and it did.  I am going to try and get my protein up even more.  My biggest problem is I hate the 3 different protein powders I have, they are awful.  I do like the GNC low carb, sugar and lactose free drinks.  They have 25 grams of protein per bottle but it's not whey protein isolate.  But I figure getting my protein in at this stage is important and if I don't like the whey protein isolates yet it's better to get in another form.  What do you think?

You can buy protein samples from Vitalady and that way you can hopefully find something you like without wasting anything more than a simple sachet.  According to DSfacts eggs are nearly as bioavailable as some protein powders. The full link is here and this page is really interesting.   I recommend you have a read http://www.dsfacts.com/protein.html

"whey blended products, BV 100-159
whey, BV 104
egg, BV 100"

You really want to try and get onto the full range of vites as I didn't start 'til 4 weeks out and after nearly a year on Vitalady I'm only just starting to get nice lab results.  You can get mostly chewable vites from her here https://vitalady.com/vitanews/pre-packaged-regimens/  The mostly chewable packs are available under the "Un-Packaged Regimens" heading.  Your other vites won't go to waste just save them until you can tolerate swallowing them.

Whey protein blend is what you want as it's the most absorbable.

I really do understand about not liking the protien shakes.  Ive tried a few, but I know its important that we drink the isolate, so Ive never tried anything else.  Ive tried different brands, but I seem to have good luck with the GNC 28grams whey protien isolate.  I drink one of those with each of my vitalady packets of vitamins, killing two birds with one stone.  That adds up to 112grams protien, so I know I only have to eat 8grams of protien to get in my 120.  In the future I hope to eat more and cut out some of the nasty drinks, but for now, Im not second guessing anything, and just getting them in.  I "because of expense" would love to do regular whey protien, but I know as DS'rs we need the isolate.  By using the other its kind of like your going through the motions of getting in your protein, but really your not.  Then when you get your labs in Im worried you could tank in the protien dept.  Ive seen other people on here learn that the hard way.  Ive also heard that bad protein levels can be just as hard to raise as bad vitamin levels.  That scares the heck out of me, not only for myself, but because of my insurance not paying for bariatic care.  I mix mine with water in a nutribullet mixer, and gag them down.  Ive slowly come to accept that it is the price we have to pay for having this surgery....Good Luck!
