Hi I am trying to get a vitamin regimen together I have been looking at vitalady and cannot afford to get her package vitamin deals at the moment I am working on stock piling my vitamins so I can always have them on hand I am a year out and just transferred with my husband and feel on my own I currently take a liquid ADEK centrum multi vitamin calcium 1200 mg and twice a day I take magnesium, lutin, frolic acid, fish oil, b complex, once a day I'm taking b12 sublingual and I take a chewable vitamin c with my iron, I also take frolic acid. I am having a hard time finding the numbers of mg or iu I should take total a day. The more I look the more I learn but also get confused. I have had my labs done and the surgeon has said they look good but I have not gotten copies of them. I have to start over finding a new doctor in my area and would love some helpful input on how to start advocating for myself. I would like to have more children in the near future so I am just trying to make sure my body is getting everything it needs and be in the best health possible I am humbled by a lot of everyone's knowledge and would love to get to a point where I can have everything I need together vitamin wise so I will always have what I need to be heathy

The Fat Soluble are best bought from Biotech directly.  Their shipping is only $4.99.  I don't know about Alaska.  The A, D, E that we need are the right amounts.

For all other's, I either buy from Vitacost or Lucky Vitamin

Here are the 3 websites:

BioTech

LuckyVitamin

Vitacost

It's very important with this DS surgery that you become your own advocate.  We as DSrs may see something a PCP may miss in our bloodwork.  I go to a Hematologist for mine due to my WBC dropping after having the DS.  I go every 2 months.  Most DSrs go every 6 month some every 3.

Liquid may or may not be good.  Depending on what your labs are... I have found some people can take liquids and are fine, other's cannot.  The one thing I do know is this.  All the Vits we take are important.  The absolute most important IMHO, are Vit A, Vit D, Vit B12, in this order.  NEVER EVER go without these.  If our D is not high enough, then it doesn't matter what other vits we take, they are not going to be utilizing the ones we take without our D level being high enough.

MajorMom is our resident expert  on Vits (That is my reference for her).....

I bought a lot of mine from amazon.com since I have a Prime account with free 2 day shipping. Even if you have to pay for shipping, the cost is often significantly lower than other websites. I also found low cost vitamins at drvita.com

It took me a long time to research and compare all the vitamins (I have a huge spreadsheet that compares brands and costs). I ended up buying some from amazon, some from Vitalady, some from drvita.com, some from Costco, and some from CVS. I made sure I got the best deal on each item I purchased.

I noticed you have used the DrVita.com  site........... I just found that site today and it has better prices on the Protein Powder I use then any other site, but I did not know of anyone or even heard of anyone using that site. It is a reputable place in your opinion?

Thanks in advance

I've only placed a couple of orders for vitamins so far, but I had no problems with the site. The prices are great and they offer free shipping sometimes.

the total amount a dser should take is really individual...I feel you pain, it can get expensive, get a fsa and use that money to pay for that....being a year out you should have some idea of your requirements and then tweek them.  I had an issue with Vit K, due to my primary wls.  I will tell you where i get my vits...all of the mail order ones are free shipping since i purchase 12 months at a time

Ca citrate i get a cvs when they have the buy one get one free, vb12 also cvs bogo, multivitmin bogo cvs

Mg, boron, silica, strontinum, dry e i get from vitacost

dry vit d3 50K i get from amazon, and i also get IM injections, RX

dry vit K 1K i get from CAM formulas

dry vit a 25K i get from biotech

proferrin forte is a RX for iron

i search for the best prices for what i need, but don't sacrifice what i need

i think that is it....

Most of mine come from Puritan.com.  They have good sales!

First thing, if you are taking fish oil, you are wasting your money.  DSer's only absorb any lipid (fat) at 20%.  It's literally just passing through, with no benefit.  Get your ADEK (fat soluble) vitamins in dry form  from some of the sources mentioned on this board.  I get most of mine from Lucky Vitamin, except for the Bio-Tech  Vit. D, which I order from either eBay or Amazon.

All those little oil-filled capsules can go in the trash, or to some other place where they'll do some good, once you get your new supply of vitamins.
