My 5 year surgiversary!
Ok, my surgiversary was actually yesterday! I can't believe I let it slip by me!!!
I just thought I would give a little update on how things are for me at 5 yrs. out. I can't believe it's been that long!
WEIGHT -
I'm doing pretty good. I lost down to one of my goal weights (I had two). I thought that when I reached the first one if I didn't look too thin I would try to get to the lower of the two. I was fine with the first so I stayed there. I stayed at that for 3 yrs. I guess. These last 2 yrs I have gained about 15 to 20 during the school year and then lose it during the summer. I eat like I want during the school year and then buckle down to get it back off while I'm off work for the summer. I think I would like to change that and eat right all the time. I'm not sure how I'll do with that but that's where I'm at with it now. So anyway weight wise I would say things are still good.
VITES & LABS -
For the last 2 years my labs have been trending down. This is partly my fault...I must stick with Vitalady's plan! With my last set of labs in May my ferritin was 10, my D-25 was 25 and my B12 was 211. I'm hoping to get them back up where they need to be and keep them there. I WILL do better!
PLASTICS -
On August 1st of 2011 I was able to get some reconstructive surgery done. This has helped me feel soo much better about myself! I'm so thankful for this. I never thought it would happen.
GAS/POO ISSUES -
I never have had any real issues with gas and or diarrhea. Probably the only times I do is when I eat a lot of rich foods on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Oh and Cheese It's/Cheese Nips. I can eat other crackers or bread with no problems but just one of those is all it takes.? ?? For the last couple of weeks my belly has been rumbling and I've got it narrowed down to either an antibiotic I was on or a water flavoring I changed to. Other than that, which is minor to me, no issues. I think I had more issues with gas pre-DS. The calcium tends to constipate me. That's what issues I have to deal with.
This surgery has resolved all of my co-morbids. I don't regret it at all.
Things I wish I had done:
~Stayed with Vitalady's vitamin plan (although I didn't intentionally stop the ones I stopped)
~Stayed away from sweets
~exercise more
~not staying in touch with my DS friends on this forum which would also have kept me up to date on the latest changes and helped keep me on track
Sorry for such a long post. I hope it is helpful. I wish each of you the best on your weight loss journey!
Ronnie
PS sorry if this has posted 100 times. It keeps giving me a network error!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about your success. I am a newbie too- almost 4 months out and its nice to see where we can be in a few years and what to look out for. I see several issues you struggle with in my own journey so its a great heads up for me.
Congratulations again on your success and joy from your surgery!

Congrats. It's always nice to hear from people that are further out.
