Feeling better.

I don't care what anyone says but I believe I had another episode of dumping syndrome or whatever the heck anyone wants to call it. I drank a protein shake with peanut butter, banana and I added powdered milk for some extra oomph. I was vomiting, heart racing, diarrhea, flushed. It was horrific. I really thought I was going to DIE. My husband drove me to the hospital but right before we got there things started to calm down. I slept for a while and am finally feeling better. I can't do that again. Whatever that was!

So sorry, hope you  feel better. Instead of protein shakes maybe you could try Isopure. Each bottle has 40g of whey protein isolate. I hate the taste of the protein powder, it makes me gag. I much prefer the Isopure.

WOW!!!!   You poor thing!  Ive heard of another person speak on here about thinking she had experienced dumping with the DS.  I think it was on here anyway.  That is so horrible.... Thats was always one of the great things about the DS, is that we didnt have to worry about it.  I hope you call your dr. and tell him what happened even though you are feeling better....  It sounds so scary, sorry you had to go through that.  At least you think you have it figured out what caused it.  Chin up, you can get through this, it soposed to all be worth it in the end.......  So they say...lol   You could go to the search box, and do a search on it, and see what you find.....  Once again,

Good luck....

Sounds dreadful!  What kind of protein shake did you use?  And could it be a lactose reaction to the powdered milk?

That's what I'm thinking.

My guess is that you overfilled your stomach. It is easy to do when drinking your food. Since you are early out, you should drink your protein in small batches.

Yuck! But I'm glad you're feeling better. I wonder if it was the milk too. Or maybe the peanut butter and banana made it too rich. If you like iced coffee, that's how I make my protein shakes. Use the vanilla powder, a cup of cold coffee and about 1/3 cup of half and half. Shake in a shaker cup with ice. The bold decaf coffee I use tastes stronger than the protein shake so I can tolerate it. Takes about 30-45 minutes to drink but it's a good 36g of protein. Or, as mentioned above, maybe try Isopure Zero Carb RTD. I sip on that (over crushed ice) all day. Just don't give up on the protein drinks. They seem to be what keep a lot of the vets healthy long-term.

I hope everything has passed and you can enjoy some of your weekend.

My stomach was so sensitive in the beginning.  Now I almost can eat any thing.  But I had a few episodes of vomiting and for some reason I always tried to avoid it and feel much better after vomiting.  I do not do well when it comes to high fat meat.  Over the holiday I tried BBQ baby back ribs did not stay down an hour.  Most items I could not tolerate in the beginning I later did not have a problem with for example protein powder & iron pill.  However any high fat meat as in chuck roast I will up chuck with in an hour of eating it.  Prior to the DS for years I ate better quality meat so I am not sure if my stomach just got use to it.  Recently as I need the good fat I have added an avocado to my daily regime mixed with what ever meat, spoon of salsa and onion, oh and sour cream.  It taste awesome and I get more fat.  I tend to be a creature of habit and eat a lot of common items over and over when I find something I like or enjoy.......... then I will get tired of it and find something else.  So I hope this will be a passing phase for you as it was with me.  Surgical date 2/14/12

I can't handle even a tiny bit of powdered milk.
