Day 4 post op.... Lord, What did I get myself into?

I went to Mexico and my first ten days were a fog but I do remember the pain.  Splint your tummy muscles with a pillow when  you get up or cough and do not be a hero take your pain meds.  As a nurse we tell pt's to set an alarm in the middle of the night to take your pain meds so it is not out of your system.  I have arthritis and I remember being in agony I was not comfortable in the bed and the reclining chair in the hospital became my best friend.  Small sips of water, don't gulp as it will come back up and it does not feel good to vomit.  Be kind to yourself and know that all the things you have to do will come in time today is just about getting through the first few days.  Now is not the time to worry about any thing then to stay hydrated.  I remember thinking broth tasted heavenly.  I I only considered Mexico as this site highly recommended my doctor.  My doctor requires his pt's to commit to ten days.  Since I had no one to travel with me the nurse would come by daily to give me a heparin shot to avoid clots and brought me juice and broth and Jello.  May not be DS appropriate but it worked and then when I got home I worried about starting the rest of my life.  I tried many protein shakes and was not very lucky.  Meat was not an option early on.  I assume since I had surgery in Mexico my post op diet instructions were not ideal however I hear often even state side they do not suggest the best.  I am a light wt so I did not lose as much as some of the other gals on here but I think if I had more protein intake one I would have lost more and secondly I would have had less hair loss at 3 to 7 months but that is my theory.  Be good to yourself and know no matter how long it takes you will get there and the day will come when you are glad you did this.  I added to many carbs into my diet and gained 20 pounds after being at my low 150's so now I am back to focusing on protein

Good luck and no matter what be assured the wt will come off.
