Very slow weight loss
Hi all,
I am 7 weeks post op and feel that my weight loss is going so much slower than everyone else's. Prior to surgery, I weighed 282. I lost 17 pounds during the 2 week liquid diet and 20 pounds since the surgery. Most of the 20 came off during the first 2 weeks. I've been stalled for a while and am worried that this is not working for me and I'm going to fail. I am getting my water in by mixing it with Crystal Light. Any issues with that? I'm getting about 70 grams of protein a day, mostly through meats and cheeses. After surgery, I didn't have much energy until week 4. That was short lived because I then developed a UTI and low potassium. My energy was gone again. I've been on antibiotics for 6 days now. Energy is slowly returning. Maybe it's time to see the nutritionist. Maybe I misunderstood something about eating. I go back to work on Monday. It should do me good to get back into my routine. Not sure how to make this successful for me.I agree. Your body is probably just regrouping. I am 9 weeks out, and had been stalled at about 30 lbs, then the past 2 weeks I started losing again. Once you begin eating more, on a more regular schedule, your weight loss should pick up again. It did for me. I am amazed, since it really does seem like the more I eat, the faster I lose! What what????
If you eat every couple of hours you will notice your weight drop fast. strange I know but its true. on weeks that I don't eat as much I only lose about 2-3 lbs on weeks I eat ever couple of hours I lose 5-7 lbs. of course im a heavy weight so YMMV. cheese, meat, cottage cheese, yogurt, nuts jerky. snack snack snack... peanut butter and for crunch I will have a saltine cracker. Your NUT may not have the answers... You will figure that out in your own...
I have had 3 UTI's since surgery and have never had one before so come to find out its because of dehydration. Get those fluids in more that 62 ounces.
I stalled at 2 months. And sat there for almost 8 weeks. Frustrating, I know.
After 70 lbs, I pretty much quit losing weight. Could not budge that scale. I tried everything I could think of - then I just said the hell with it and forgot about it. I keep my protein intake where it should be, I take my vitamins, and I don't eat above 50 carbs a day. I don't exercise regularly either. It takes time, but I drop the weight.
We are all different, and you have to change things to find what works for you. Try increasing/decreasing your total calorie intake, try decreasing/increasing your carbs, try eating multiple times a day - just keep trying different factors of the equation (carbs, calories, protein, liquids) and switch it up once in a while.
Your minimal protein intake is .37 X your weight. Eat more to have more energy.
I know it's frustrating. Try not to focus on the scale. It will drive you nuts as you watch everyone on this board losing 5-8 lbs a week. Everyone finds their own way.
I think I could have written your post. My surgery was May 14th. I lost 8 pounds preop and 27 pounds postop. I am a light weight but it does get discouraging. I can't wait to meet with my dietician and find out if I'm eating right. I always worry that it might not work, but logically I know it should. The past week I have been dragging. The fatigue is kicking my bootie and I'm not sure why.
I feel your pain. I promise I loose 5 pounds and stall 3 weeks then loose 5 pounds stall 3 weeks.. The DS has not been "magic" for me, but every pound lost is better than i was. I did have my husband hide the scale. That has helped me a lot. Not with weight. loss. LOL! But with the mental part of it all. You are doing great for 7 weeks out. Hang in there buddy!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your advice and encouragement. Since venting my frustrations to you, I weighed myself and I'm down 2 more pounds for a total of 39. I'm also down two inches in my hips and 13 inches in my waist.
My energy is still up and down. My primary physician ordered a bunch of labs. I should have some answers early next week.
