Problems post op? Ulcers? Hernia? Appendix or GB issues? Probiotics?

Who takes probiotics and why? What does it do or prevent?

How do you avoid getting an ulcer?

I just had my GB out and I think they already took out my appendix with my DS.

Also, with Iron - I am taking 65mg a day. How much do you take?

I am trying to get 90 g of protein- I have read some people are taking 145 or so. Should I try to aim for that? I had always been told 90-100.

I am 3 yrs post op.

I am just kinda freaking out because I had to get my Gall bladder removed with an open surgery and am worried about what else could go wrong. I don't want any more surgeries obviously. :)

Also... I get most of my protein from food but I do drink 1 drink a few times a week called "premier protein" at costco... premade- 30 g protein, 1g sugar.

Are you at maintenance level? That makes a difference on the amount of protein and carbs you take in. I am a relative newbie (under 3 months) so keep that in mind. My Doctor wants me at 80 grams of protein while losing. I shoot for between 80 and 100, usually end up in the high 80's.

What do your labs say about your iron levels? It seems better to go from your labs then to compare doses.

Are you still getting in all the liquids you should?

I don't take probiotics. I try and make active culture Greek yogurt part of my regular diet instead. If you don't have any bowel/gas issues I don't see why you need to start probiotics now although I haven't seen anyone say that it caused them a problem except for some issues the first week or so getting used to it (rarely).

When you have your labs done do you get a copy and enter them in a spreadsheet?  This is the best way of keeping track of your own levels and tweaking things that are trending downwards.

Probiotics - YES  However, if I get in my homemade kefir every day I don't need them. The kefir has eliminated almost all smells and other gut problems. I love the stuff just for that reason alone.

I eat and/or drink between 125-150 grams of protein daily and if I consistently go below that, my protein labs start trending down fast.

8 years out and maintaining 100% EWL. :)
