YIKES I HAVE GAINED 18 POUNDS
I MAKE SURE I GET MY PROTEIN IN SO THERE IS NO CHANCE I AM NOT TAKING IN ENOUGH. THAT SAID I STARTED DATING A CHEF 6 MONTHS AGO AND EVEN A BITE OF THIS AND THAT SENDS ME DOWN THE WRONG ROAD. I VERY METHODICAL ABOUT MY PROTEIN I EVEN MAKE MY OWN BEEF JERKY TO SNACK ON THROUGH OUT THE DAY BUT OBVIOUSLY I HAVE FALLEN OFF THE WAGON. I GOT DOWN TO 150 ISH AND NOW I AM TIPPING THE SCALE AT 170 AND WENT FROM 10 'S TO 12 'S. I THOUGHT FOOLISHLY WT WOULD NEVER BE AN ISSUE AGAIN WELL MY DS IS NOT A LICENSE TO EAT WHAT EVER I WANT AND I AM GOING TO HAVE TO DO SOMETHING OR I FEAR GAINING BACK ALL THE WT THE DS ALLOWED ME TO LOSE. WATER VITAMINS PROTEIN COULD NOT BE BETTER HOWEVER I STARTED EATING THINGS I SHOULD NOT. I CAN EASILY EAT 3 ORANGES IN A DAY WHICH TELLS ME IF IT WERE NOT FOR MY DS I AM SURE I WOULD BE MORE THEN MY TOP WT. ANY HELPFUL TID BITS TO GET ME BACK ON TRACK WILL BE APPRECIATED. SADLY I HAVE GIVEN UP EXERCISE SO YES THAT IS AN AREA I CAN IMPROVE ON.
THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES

Eating the right stuff is tough when you can eat things and it doesn't bother your digestive track. I can eat anything, though now I notice a bit more uncomfortableness with certain foods. Staying away from carbs or cutting back on them needs to be the first step
You will do great once you make up your mind, about what you need to do.

Yep, I am struggling with the same issues. I was down to the 150's but after a year of gaining, zoomed up to 185!!! I put on the brakes at 175 but I just kept gaining. It took a while for my body to realize that this packing it on was not going to happen. After a couple of months of cutting out as many carbs as possible, now I am down to 175 and still aiming to lose 15 more. It is starting to get really tough though. I just want you to know it is doable. I was disparing after gaining weight even after concentrating on loss, but don't give up. Yeah, I have to increase my exercise too.
I am in the same boat as you and recently noticed an extra 20 pounds after being stable around 155 for nearly 5 years. I never weigh myself, but noticed my pants were getting tight. So I decided to weigh myself and yikes! There must be something wrong with my scale, right?! LOL. Needless to say, I freaked out a little bit and immediately started having panic attacks of me gaining back all the weight and having to explain to my surgeon how I ruined his long-term statistics.
All this happened about a month ago. So I took a deep breath, remembered my DS is still working for me, and reminded myself that I lost 200 pounds after surgery. What's a measly 20 pounds at this point, right? I started writing down EVERYTHING I ate. A handful of nuts while staring in the cupboard. A couple of cherries while waiting for dinner to finish cooking. The half order of fries I shared with a friend at lunch. Protein and carb counts (approximately) for everything in a notebook. I don't care about fat or calories. I make sure my protein is double my carb intake (usually 140-160 protein and 60-80 carbs - my stomach is definitely back to pre-op size, but that's ok because we'll always have our malabsorption). I didn't do much as far as changing my diet - I still eat like a horse. Just more like a healthy horse. I stopped white carbs, for the most part. No more white bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, or sugar. With some exceptions, of course. I'll eat whole grain pasta about once a week, but measure it out. A small baked potato is ok with tons of bacon and cheese and sour cream (and butter!). I went back to my post-op low carb tortillas for bread (and they make tasty homemade tortilla chips instead of mindlessly shoving potato chips in my piehole). And they didn't have liquid splenda back in my day but it seems to be a miracle food. No more yellow packets fluttering about the house!
Besides writing it down and cutting (some of) it out, I started walking everywhere. I live in NYC so I'll walk if it is less than 20 blocks. Lucky for me I'm notoriously late for everything so I have to put some pep in my step to get anywhere on time. Another tip I have for you is DON"T WEIGH YOURSELF. Set a date you want to weigh and wait until then. Otherwise, you'll drive yourself nuts. I waited until this week to weigh because my pants fit again (yay!) and I was curious. I started at 178 and I'm down to 163. So I still have about 9 to go but 15 pounds in a month without really trying works for me! I'm sure if I was stricter it would go faster, but that's not really my style. I didn't lose 200 pounds to I could nit pick over every morsel that goes in my mouth.
Good luck to you and I know you can do it! The DS is still in there and is still working. It's just a matter of getting back to basics.
Thank you so much for taking the time and replying. You give me hope. I have bought a binto box I found out about on amazon and I am trying to have ready made protein to prevent me from seeking easy carbs at the cafeteria.
I chef bf will be gone for a month and I pray this will give me enough time to get back on track.
I think your idea of not wt myself every day is a good idea as any loss makes me want to treat myself or at least in the past I have found this to be the case. I would think going my pants size would be a indicator of how I am doing.
Looking forward to getting my DS working for me again in the next month.
I have read I need to white knuckle through the first week of no carbs and I am ready and hope I am strong.

Even though we absorb differently the same basic principle of weight loss still stands... calories in vs. calories out. Don't be so hard on yourself if you have a bit of something naughty once in a while... but get to the gym or go for a walk. Do some extra physical activity that day to help burn it off, brush off the guilt and keep going with the plan.
YIKES! that's a lot. I would probably just cut out fruit for now and sugar if that's an issue. Glad to hear you are top of the protein & vites!
I am holding steady on the weight loss but then I never did cut out many carbs from the start so bounce back didn't happen like some. I do seem to have little room after doing the protein tho as I keep that high.
