DS vs RNY- help!
Hi Nicolle,
I was just wondering if you knew what size bougie and common channel your doctor used for your surgery. It sounds like you are getting to live your life rather normally and still maintaining your weight. That is a miracle and I'm wondering if the size of the bougie and common channel makes a difference.

Many people, many theories on this. My surgeon does not put much stock in the bougie theory being a determinant as to weight loss success.
He seems to do a Hess-style measurement (measures your common channel and uses a formula, modified by how much you need to lose, your age, gender, etc.)
My common channel is 100 and my stomach was made to be about 2-3 ounces capacity. I can tell you that I eat a lot more than that at one sitting.
My opinion, based on MY anecodotal observations, say that longer common channels (like those practiced by Dr. Anthone) may help with some bowel issues and vitamin absorption, but it's tougher to lose and keep off all of your excess weight.
