Im six weeks out, and I still have a spot where I have pain.  This one spot has always been the most tender since day one.  The onley reason I still have pain meds is because I have some for my sciatic nerve pain that I can take daily.  The one thing that I noticed really helped besides the narcodic pain medicine is the anti inflamitory pain meds that they perscribed.  Did you get one of these?

No that isnt an antiinflametory.  I was givin supridol.  I Dont think they have it in this country, but I know if you called your surgeon they would most likely perscribe you one if you asked.  The antiinflamitory seems like it helps better with soreness.

It was probably Toradol- which is an anti-inflammatory.  Here's hoping you feel better soon!

In the hospital I had a morphine clicky button, which I loooooved.  I was so happy and warm and sleepy.  Those couple of days are hazy at best in my mind.  I just remember loving everyone a lot. :D After they took it away (boo), I was on Lortab, I think, because that's what I was discharged with.  I don't recall being in a lot of pain in the hospital, just sleeping a lot.  I do vaguely recall not liking the bumpy gurney ride back to my room post-recovery, but I was pretty loaded.

I was in pain every day after discharge, especially if I wasn't on top of my pain meds.  It's like my pain receptors kicked back in.  I learned to watch that clock!

Bear in mind that you just had some very, very major abdominal surgery, and you're less than a week out.  They took out some stuff, stapled some stuff, and rearranged some stuff.  It's a big deal!

The pain is normal.  You're right, it sucks, but it's totally normal, and to be expected for awhile.  I was in a decent amount of pain the first week, a little bit less the second.  The bumpy car ride back to my hotel from the hospital, even though it was just a few blocks, was hell.  I had pain in specific places where they did the procedures, especially by my gallbladder and liver biopsy.  It felt like a big stitch in my side and was pretty uncomfortable.

The pain progressed to general abdominal discomfort and soreness by one month, kind of like the feeling after you've done too many sit-ups.  Not awful at all, just annoying.  Now I have no pain at all, aside from farty pain. :P

Your body has been slammed with quite a shock.  You're going to be really, really tired and "off" for quite awhile.  I am *just* now starting to feel energetic and like myself, even better than before surgery in terms of less weight and joint pain.

I think the most important thing (besides sip sip sip and moving around) at this point is to just let your body do what it's going to do.  Get lots of fluid and rest, and take your pain meds!

It just depends on the person's pain tolerance level. I have lived with Chronic pain most of my life since before my teenage years. So the stomach pain due to the incisions was pretty much tolerable for me directly out of surgery. The only thing that caused me pain or discomfort was while I was in the hospital my stomach and intestines were still swollen and it caused me to become nauseated. That is a sign that I am in pain. When I have great pain it come to me in the form of nausea. They gave me Toradol and Reglan for two days to decrease the swelling and nausea and it worked immediately.

When I got home the only time I took pain meds was at night before bed. I would be a little sore after moving around and walking on and off all day. I took some Lortab and It would help me sleep at night without discomfort. The next day I was good to go until bedtime again.

I see a lot of people on here that say they are in extreme pain and some that were like me with very little pain. I think it just depends on the person.

OH and she is right...the itching is going to drive you nuts.

I had very little pain, as well, but severe nausea.
