How many days were you in a lot of pain?
I'm home had surgery last Wednesday< June 19th. The first 2 days were great, then they took my pain pump away and the pain started. I can't find a chair or bed to get comfortable in, everything hurts to get in and get out off.. I can't even type correctly, is seems someone has wrapped my fingertips in tape. I am able to get my fluids down and am slowly progressing to scrambled eggs. I am moving gas and having bowel movements, wow the smell is truly disgusting. So since it's been about over 4 days, I'm on my 5th will I see some relief in my physical discomfort soon? This sucks!!
Good luck!
You are a stud, you are doing this by your self!!! I feel like such a whimp, and I truly am not a whimp!! The incision below me belly hurts the absolute most, I look forward to some healing and being able to lie down for more than 30 minutes at a time. I also feel kinda weepy, not sure why. If I thought I could have a great cry without hurting my stomach I would. Having a good cry will be on my future "to do list"!
As for resting. If you have a good spot, like a big chair, push a soft pillow under each side but leave it half way out so you can rest your arms on them. I found that 3 pillows does the trick - one behind my head and one tucked under each side (where my fat belly hangs over). It also helps to hold up your tummy with your hands when you get up and down, walk or just move in general. The extra support helps relieve some of the strain on the tummy.
Lastly, I find that a quart size bag full of crushed ice helps with the most painful incisions. Just make sure to wrap the baggie with a dish towel so it's not directly on your stomach. I leave it there until that spot is numb, then I move it around until the ice melts.
Hope you can try some of these things and get some relief. Good luck!
It will probably take about 3 weeks to start feeling alive again. We all went through it! One of the hardest parts was trying to find a chair/recliner that was semi-comfortable to sleep and rest in. I had to keep moving every 15-20 minutes. A few pillows wedged on the side of the recliner helped some. Just keep taking the pain meds to help with sleep, if you have any, and it will SLOWLY get better. We all know about the god-awful smell, too. It is very tough the first few weeks, but you will be extremely pleased after a month or two. Hang in there!
First of all Good Luck! I'm two weeks post-op today and this is the first day I feel somewhat human again. I never had a pain pump just liquid meds. I finally realized after three days that I had to take the full 2 tsp every four hours on the DOT. This is the only thing that helped me even function. I was absolutely miserable. Walking was hard but I forced myself every 3 hours at the most to do a couple laps outside. I think this helped a lot. It's been a very difficult two weeks for me and I'm just hoping today is a sign of good things. I still can't sleep in bed but I did graduate from sitting straight up with pillows all around me to half laying down on the couch now. I'm still on liquid diet haven't even thought about trying foods yet. I've just been too miserable and my DR doesn't recommend food for a couple more weeks anyway.
