water
Yea, I see on here that most people concur that we can drink with meals, however, I am consistently told by my NP and NUT, to stop drinking 15 minutes before meals, and no drinking for an hour afterward. I am surprised that this seems to be an outdated belief- held true only for RNYers- because my surgeon and practice are pretty highly esteemed in the DS community.
(Just for the record, I do sip with meals.......)
The reason they say this is because you are still healing and your pouch can only hold an ounce. So when you eat they want it to be able to hold nothing but food rather than being filled up with water. They also do not want to put to much strain on it. Some people can drink and it goes right through them. Some peoples pyloric valves do not always let it. I had to drink and eat separately as well at first. Now I can do it together.
Sip every time you think of it, before you do anything, after you do it, every TV commercial, every time they call Cartman a fatass on Southpark. Staying hydrated is the hardest chore in the beginning. Make up drinking games.
