On Monday, I start the liquid diet. I am excited about starting this journey and scared to fail. Can you share what you ate/drank during your pre and post op phase and maybe some recipes or things you discovered? I just want to do well so, I know that means preparation.

I didn't have to do a liquid diet except for the day before but I did try to do a little on my own. I drank the New Whey shots and the Isopure juices. I wanted to get my protein in the best shape I could so healing would be better post-op. Post-op my tastes changed so radically I had to go with diluted Isopure and New Whey for a couple of days but went right to chocolate protein shakes after that.

I did Boost Glucose Control for the two weeks prior. Post op it seemed too thick for me. I had water, strained soup, a water mixed protein shake, and crystal light.  You can do it. The big thing post op for me was learning to drink slowly. Also, in hindsight I pushed too hard through the post op diet phases (liquid, puree, soft foods, regular diet. There is no hurry do what your stomach is comfortable with.

It's exciting. Congratulations on the final step. No failure now jusst working with the results. Have a smooth operation and a speedy recovery!!

I did a 5 day liquid diet before surgery so I drank Boost.  It is a meal replacement, not a protein drink.  I think that liquid diet was the hardest thing about this surgery.

I knew I was going to have this surgery well in advance, so I ate like there was no tomorrow.  I paid no attention to my blood sugars either.  I rocked my world with calories!  So the liquid diet time was a disappointing let down after the party I had been having for the month prior to surgery.

After the surgery, I switched to the protein drinks.  I ate protein - eggs at first.  Then more eggs.  Then baked chicken and pork chops - then whole animals!  No, just kidding.  Kinda.  At first, 2 bites were all I could eat.  That's about 1/2 an egg.  As time goes on you can get up to 4 bites.  It's a slow process for eating proteins.  I drank 4 shakes a day to get my protein numbers up for the day.  And then used those shakes to swallow my vites.

You won't fail if you listen and obey the rules.  Listen to the vets on this forum.  Ask questions.  Your medical professionals don't always have the right answers either - I learned that the hard way.  If they tell you to do something that doesn't sound right, come here and do a search or ask a question.  One of the old timers will tell you the right thing to do.

Have a good surgery.  You won't regret this decision.

Thank you guys for responding.  What were/are the best protein products that you found post-op?  Brand and flavor?  I am going to order the Unjury powder without the flavor to add to broth but, I'd like to have one or two other choices on hand as well.  I am a single parent with no family around.  Whatever I can have ready is going to be helpful to my success.
