Switch after 7 years???

Long story short.....I was supposed to have the DS in 2006; surgeon decided to give me just the VSG with the intention of switching a couple of months later.  I then decided to not get switched as it seemed so easy.  Well, 7 years later and a 50+ pound pain....it's not very easy.

Wondering if anyone has been switched with this much time from VSG?

Thanks.....seeing the weight climbing back and not feeling able to get control on my own is frightening.

I got switched two years after getting sleeved. I lost 40+lbs to make it into the healthy range. I'd say that being switched did cause some abdominal swelling which caused me to eat less for the first six months.

I have a 75cm cc and wish I had a 50 to make it more comfortably within the healthy range. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

Huneypie, have you experienced any of the drawbacks I've heard of such as uncontrollable and smelly gas, diarrhea.....

Most importantly, are you happy you switched?

I only have issues when I eat junk and even then it's not really uncontrollable.  I've not had any accidents post switch.  You just have to stick to Atkins and your innards should be fine - mine are.

I'm very happy I got switched - I eat plenty with this old sleeve and hate to think the size I'd be without my switch.  I'm very fortunate, I had pretty much had a text book recovery.

LINDAAAA!!!!  Me too! I'm looking at it after 5 years.  I was doing great, but I've literally gained 50+ pound in the past year.

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

Sami!!!!!!!  Sweet thing good to 'see' you!  Yep, gained!  First a gained 15 lbs, then Lyrica added another 10 lbs, then.....well, here I am, maintaining the 100 lb weight loss....but scared.  Problem is, I'm now 65! so don't know that anyone would want to switch me, especially since I developed 3 blood clots in my lungs during hernia repair/tummy tuck!  I was wondering if they band sleeves.

I truly never thought that after surgery I would still be fighting my demons at this age.

Geez!

Have you contacted Gagner? I think his cash pay for a revision to a DS is around $15k.  I'm sure they can do extra heparin or other things to reduce the risks of blood clots.

If you're still in NY, I used Dr. Roslin, and I really liked him.  He's at Lenox Hill.

Last I heard Gagner was in FL, but when I googled him I'm getting a Manhattan addi.  So, info might be old, or he moved back to NY.

I'd love to at least get his opinion.  He had told me that after 2-3 yrs, if needed, he could tighten up the entrance to the stomach.

I'm gonna contact him.

Are you planning anything.

Linda, Dr. Gagner is now in Montreal.

If he doesn't work out for you, I would recommend contacting Dr. John Rabkin in San Francisco. I don't think he would see your age as a barrier.

Thanks Larra!  Hmmm, Montreal!  I love Canada!  Could make it a vacation with a side trip ;o)

I wonder if Pomp's office would give me Gagner's email address?  Pomp did my hernia repair as Gagner had left by then.  I was totally disappointed in the job the plastics dr did on my tummy tuck.  He did a revision which made no difference.  If I were younger I would definitely have had a RE-DO.

But I digress.......

I'm gonna try and contact Gagner....
