Got the DS 12 days ago
Hey folks ! Got it done and am very excited cause I lost 21 pounds on day 12 ! Yehaw!!!!. I have a question .
My favorite food is chicken and turkey wings( the flat part not the leg looking part) and same on chicken wing. I cant eat this yet but when i do..... i was told to eat lots of fats to help the protien work better. I was told at preop class....Dont eat the skin ! If i put the in a crockpot and slow cooked the skin gets real soft and a great to get fats. Shoud'nt that be ok\? I can understand if the skin like BBQed or very crispy and was told it will get stuck in tummy pouch. but i also love chicken wings with the skin and if i chew it rteally good.......Is this a no no ? It is a great source of fat for sure Anyone

First of all, no DSer should be eating nonfat anything. Nonfat or lowfat yogurt, for example, typically has a higher carb content. Thus, go for the full fat versions whenever possible. The first key to remember is low carb.
Early out from surgery, too much fat is going to be painful. Your digestive system will not like the fat with the small amount of food you are eating. You will have loose horrible stools. Do not rush right out of surgery with thoughts that you should or can eat a lot of fat. Thus, the advice at preop given to you was correct.
At some point, you will want added fat to your diet to help with constipation.....though that may be more of an issue with women because of the large amounts of calcium we take. Calcium is constipating, and many find fat, among other things to help with that.
There will come a time when you will be able to eat all the ckn wings you want (or can tolerate!). I would give it three or four months. Start in moderation and watch how it affects you. I have found that the skin actually helps the chicken to NOT get stuck, because chicken can be pretty dry and dense. The skin helped with that. I ate rotisserie chicken at about 3 or 4 months out, but couldnt tolerate any other baked broasted or grilled ckn for about 9 months-ish.
Fat is your friend.....but you need to be a little patient in getting to know him better!
Once you are far enough out, you can eat whatever part of the chicken or turkey you like best, including the skin. I eat chicken wings with the skin and have no problem with them - but I wouldn't have done that for several months post-op. I've always preferred dark meat chicken and turkey and that's what I eat now.
So stick with soft stuff for now, but the day will come when you can enjoy your chicken wings again.

YMMV
I am two months out and have had breaded chicken a few times already. Usually I eat Non breaded things though. jus****ch the amount of carbs I get in a day. I have had a Kentucky Fried Chicken strip for dinner and stayed under my 50g of carbs a day. It did not seem to bother me at all. I just think it depends on the person. I have eaten cornmeal breaded fish as well.
As long as the skin is cooked tender, I don't understand what the problem would be. I might guess that the fat sometimes associated with skin could be hard to digest during the first weeks. Also, the protein in skin (collagen) isn't something that we can process and make use of, so when you have limited space to fill early out, concentrate on the good protein. Good luck on your weight loss journey. It sounds like you're off to a good start.
