calorie intake question
Hi everyone, I'm 5 wks out, lost 31 lbs and doing rather fabulously. I have been tracking everything I eat on myfitnesspal.com and I noticed that I barely eat 1000 calories a day. More like 800-900. The thing is that I"m still able to pack down about 80 grams or so of protein (trying to build up to the recommended 100-120). I'm worried that despite being able to take a good amount of protein, my caloric intake is rather small. Should I be worried. Will my body think it's starving and sabotage the WL? Can you chime in wth the amount of calories you take and how far out DS you are?
Thanks!
I left the diet mentality of counting calories on the operating table the day I received the gift of the DS. Other than counting protein or vitamins, that's it -- no more counting calories ever!
It's normal to have "tiny tummy days" and "regular tummy days." For a while there during the first three months I would have only protein shakes and just few bites of something else -- egg, cheese, sugar-free popsicles, greek yogurt, etc.
I had stalls along the journey, one lasting about two months, but my body was shifting and losing nonetheless. Thankfully, I had read what to expect from other DSers, and didn't panic. I met goal at just over a year out.
Now I still have the tiny tummy and regular tummy days... I typically eat little amounts throughout the day. On regular tummy days, I may be able to eat 1/2 a Jimmy Johns' sandwich at a sitting. I can enjoy eating out at restaurants with friends and family, but always have a to-go box. Life is good.
So don't worry! You can feel safe to leave the diet mentality behind and focus on 4 things: Get in recommended protein, get adequate fat, ramp up to the DS vitamin routine, and keep it low carb.
Congrats on the 31 pounds -- you're doing fabulously!

I am almost 3 years out and still only get in about 800-900 calories in a day and this is when I force feed myself *I am also training for bodybuilding so I am eating every 1.5-2 hours* Your body will adapt. There are days where I eat more calorie dense foods; avocados, natural plant based fats such as olive oil and coconut oil and oily fish to avoid any metabolic damage. Keep focusing on getting in your protein, vits and liquids... your body thrives on these first.
