I'm reading the list of foods/liquids I can have on my packet of info I was giving at diet classes, I'm wondering if there are any kinds of low fat - low carb butter alternatives someone might suggest? And also any kind of food suggestions for "full liquid diet" that you all might have eaten. I'm just not really sure what to eat yet and I want to be prepared.

For the liquid diet part I used Boost Glucose control, Sugar Free Carnation Breakfast with Lactaid, protein shakes with water, and strained soup.

Once you are further along I would throw out the low fat part of the diet. I'm still working on going from low fat items to regular items. I didn't want to stress my stomach at the start. (two months out)

As for carbs in butter - it looks like they are pretty miniscule in the grand scheme of things. One page I found on google said .07 carbs for a stick og butter.

I have been eating high fat, butter, heavy cream since I could stomach it directly after surgery.

Peyton...at first go easy but get over the "low fat" mentality. At first too much fat can be bad but in a month low fat CAN cause constipation.

Okay, the math involved: You absorb ABOUT 20% of the fat you eat. If a normal, unaltered human needs ABOUT 30 grams to be normal & functioning...and you absorb only 20% of that, that means that same 30 grams is the same as 5 grams to you. So to get to the recommended 30 grams YOU will need, you need to eat about 150 grams of fat each and every day.

Enjoy adding butter to foods, eating full fat sauces, etc...you will need them.

And if you are worried about your cholesterol...don't. Mine runs genetically high. Pre-op, I came off lipitor to see where I was...about 250. Surgery was Jan 2011, in April 2011 my total cholesterol was 190 (no meds), in April 2012, it was 183 (still no meds) and this past April 2013, it was 143, still no meds and the amount of fat I eat makes my PCP put his hands over his ears going "I don't want to know, LOL".
