YAY OR NAY ON TAKING BIOTIN FOR HAIR, NAILS, ETC?
Didn't help me...many say it does help. All it did for me was grow CHIN hair. And I didn't need that so I don't bother.

I take 2,000 mg per day. I doubt I will replace the bottle when I'm through with taking all pills.
I haven't seen any excess facial hair, and I haven't seen an improvement in the hair regrowth. My hair and nails look good, my hair quit falling out in handfuls, but it could just be running it's course.
It won't hurt to try it. I would not buy a huge bottle of it though till you see a difference. And I've read that it takes 2-3 months before you see any change.
I don't take Biotin. Never have but I do take Vitamin E. The latter seems to help with my hair but that does not prevent my hair from going grey.

My hair is growing back thick and strong. My nails no longer break, the are extremely sturdy. Even better than pre-op. Like your doc said, it won't hurt to try it but you need to give it months to work.
