4 1/2 weeks out extremely tired all of the sudden???
Four and a half weeks out Im on Vitaladys plan. Eating fish, salami, cream cheese, cheese, smoked hilshire farm sausage, a few other things. It feels like I hit a wall. The kind where its hard to move. I can blow dry the first half of my hair, and then the second half it takes everything I have to keep my arm up in the air. No energy whatsoever. Im going to try and get more shakes in. Lately Ive been doing two. Maybe thats not enough to suppliment against what Ive eating. Im going to up them to two 50gram shakes. Before I was doing two maybe three 25gram shakes. I hope this isnt to hard on my kidneys... Any thoughts????

It won't be hard on your kidneys but I would drink more 25g shakes and not double scoop them. Spread the protein out like medicine. Keep up with your fluids too. Dropping weight like we do is hard on your system and getting tired is normal. Hang tough.

Thanks Gina, You have made me feel a little bit better. I was hopping you would throw your two cents in. Feeling this kind of weakness is scary, especially after reading all the things that can go wrong...... I wont double up..... Im glad I asked. It sounded like such a good Idea when I thought of it, but your reasoning does make more sense, when you put it that way....

I'm only about two months out and expect greatness from my bodyso soon after the gut rearrangement, but sometimes you just need a nap. If you are vits and bitesar in order and OK. I find the nap for 1 hr or so revives me and then I drink a great big, sip at a time glass of H2O and I have more energy for the rest of the work day. I am blessed to work from home. Saw my pulmonologist today and stoke two more meds off the list , I do not need them. Yeah!
Im so sorry to hear that you have been feeling so bad also. It is pretty horrible and so scary to say the least. Im very happy for you about the medication reduction. Its a wonderful thing. I guess there is good and bad to this journey of ours and we have to stay strong. This is really the first thing that has come up that has me a little worried. Ive just been laying in bed watching tv, and praying that everything will be ok......

I ran into this very problem myself. It seems my protein levels took a dive, and we could not get them back up fast enough. It finally got bad enough that I could barely get in and out of the car. All I wanted to do was sleep, and I could barely walk. Couldn't even go up and down the stairs to watch TV in my mancave. I was put in the hospital for four days, they had to put a feeding tube in my belly, and I had to use a feeding tube for about 6 months while my levels came back up. And I still had to eat my 100+ protein grams per day. Spent a lot of time in the bathroom. Even a year later, I'm still weaker than I should be (in my opinion), but nobody has been able to figure out why.
As you know they say low carbs for us DS'rs. Well about an hour ago I was talking to my husband, and I got the thought that maybe I cut myself to low with the carbs. I said maybe should take a couple of good drinks of kool aide and see if it makes me feel better. Well Ill tell you what, its like some one gave me a shot of energy. My protien shakes have three grams of carbs and I have been mostly drinking two, and sometimes three a day. some stuff I eat has a few carbs but never alot because I know we are soposed to avoid them. Is there such thing as not getting enough carbs. I really feel alot better. I hope major mom reads this and chimes in, I would love to know her opinion....I respect it dearly...

If you want to add a few carbs try fresh green veggies, salads and berries. You could also mix a couple of your protein shakes with milk rather than water. But, be careful with the milk and judge by your body's reaction if you are lactose intolerant. Most folks get over any lactose issues the further out they get but since you're newly post-op, it could be an issue.

I choose to eat Pure protein bars, which are higher in carbs than most shakes, but they worked well for me at about three months out and continue to be a daily staple in my diet. I also ate oatmeal with protein powder early on, though some criticized the carb content. I ate so few other carbs for about the first six months that I had no problems at all with weight loss.
I do think it helps to eat your carbs and protein at the same time as well.
Good luck!
I have stuck with my three shakes a day since I started drinking them. I have them with lactaid milk and get 31 grams of protein and 13 carbs with each shake. I eat about three to four times a day on top of that. I carry pistachios when I leave the house or pre-wrapped jerky with cheese. My energy is crazy high! Higher than it has been in years. I feel so great. I have just made protein shakes a staple in my life and will keep drinking them for the first year until I know for sure I can get enough protein in with food. They are my sweet snack.
schedule
8am- protein drink
10/11ish- pistachios, jerky or summer sausage
12/3ish- protien shake
4/6ish- dinner ( always with protein and a carby veggie.)
7/9ish- second dinner
10pm-protein shake
I seriously have not had this much hair growth, long nails or energy in years. I hope it gets better for you! Get that protein and water in. I get about 120 plus protein in a day. I know we only absorb about half of that so I am getting the recommended daily amount. I do not think I was getting that much prior to surgery. lol. I too eat good carbs every day and get almost exactly 50 carbs a day. I get my carbs with my protein shake as well because Lactaid has a few carbs in it. I would not use real sugar as your carb or bad carbs. You will come out of ketosis if you are not careful and you will also start having cravings.
