I have enjoyed readin the bites, vites... post for the last few days.  Now, I have some questions.

  • What the heck is protein coffee?  Where do you find it?
  • As far as protein shakes, are you mixing with powder or buying the kind that's ready to drink?  What is your preferred brand of either?
  • Where do you buy your vitamins from?  Does each person have a different combination of vitamins to take or, is it pretty standard?

I am fascinated at the meal plans... trying to get a grasp so, I can be ready to go.

I want to get some of these thi

1. Gina (major mom) has her recipe which is really good. I mix a scoop and a half of chocolate powder with enough cream to make a slurry then add hot coffee and SF chocolate syrup. Top with whipped cream. Always add the hot to the slurry to avoid lumps

2. I make my own shakes. For the first year and a half I made Lorie's coffee recipe. Now I do 1/2 c almond milk, 1/2 c cream, 2 squirts MIO orange tangerine and 1 1/2 scoops fuzzy navel powder, add crushed ice to make a thick shake

There's all types of shake and coffee recipes floating around

3. Many of us start with Vitallady's plan then adjust based on labs. Gina can give you the details. I order from Vitalady and buy locally at Walmart depending.

Protein coffee is something you make yourself.  If you like coffee I'd say it is a God-send.  I don't like coffee and I'm jealous of all the people who get their protein with their coffee!  I didn't like any of the shakes at first.  I got a huge sample pack from VitaLady and it was a good thing because I hated all of them.  I found Chike which had a few more carbs but I liked it mixed with VERY cold water so it was my protein supplement for a couple of years.

I suggest you start with VitaLady's starting off plan.  I don't think it is necessary to buy her starter pack vitamins.  She didn't have that when I started.  Then you adjust as you go based on your labs.  You need to get ALL the labs she recommends as most docs won't order all the labs you need.  I got labs 4 times the first year and twice a year now going on my 4th surgiversary.  I buy my Dry ADE and K1 and K2 from VitadLady and most of the rest at Walmart.  My labs are pretty good but I am trying to get my D to 80. Doesn't seem to want to happen.

You'll get the hang of it.  Forums like this will be really helpful.

I didn't like any Vitalady protein powder samples either.  I use ISO Sensations 93.  I go for the most protein per grams available.

I don't do protein coffees that much.  I drink a bunch of coffee in the mornings with heavy cream.  I usually do a shake at night to stop the munchies.

Costco has a pre-made shake that tastes OK. Called Premiere.  It has 30 grams per serving, which is pretty good.

I get my vitamins off the internet, Vitalady, Wallmart, Costco.  I shop around.

1. I have not tried Mom's protein coffee yet but I am sure I will. I drink Syntax Nectar Cappuccino with ho****er an milk and it makes my protein coffee. It is yummy

2. I drink Syntax Nectar protein drinks. They are powder form. I mix them with lactaid milk. I love fuzzy Nectar with milk. It tastes like an orange dream. I also love the chocolate truffle. I just ordered the vanilla bean and strawberry mouse from Amazon.com.

3. Yes we are all on different regimens according to our labs and how far out we are.

Hi there!

Protein Coffee
brew a pot of your favorite coffee - we like chocolate raspberry (you can also brew chai tea and use in place of coffee)

In a 20 oz blender bottle with wire ball, add 2 oz of heavy whipping cream and 2 oz of cool water, or 4 oz of half & half, a packet of Truvia or Splenda, a couple of dashes of cinnamon, and a heaping scoop of Syntrax Nectar vanilla protein powder.
Shake about 5 seconds to blend
Pour the protein slurry into a huge mug and fill to the top with coffee
Sir to blend and enjoy!

If you are watching your fat grams, substitute unsweetened soy or skim milk.

Always add hot liquid to cold protein slurry to keep the protein from clumping.

Always check the ingredients of a protein powder before you buy it to ensure the first ingredient listed is whey protein isolate. Don't trust the splashy label on the front.

I'm a Vitalady' groupie and believer. I tried my surgeon's plan the first few months but it didnt work. He had talked to Michelle, Vitalady, at a conference and seemed to be ok with me switching to her plan. I did, had perfect labs at 1 year post-op and have been using her plan and tweaking with my labs as they come in ever since. For example, I don't have to take vitamin A since I got it up and over the top of the range. I don't have to take the B-complex now just a separate B1 I get from Vitamin Shoppe. I've been able to reduce my iron by half of her recommended dose--same as vite A, I got my iron markers up and over the top of the ranges and my dietician and I are watching them like a hawk to see if they hold. I added vitamin K2 to help with my bone issues. Bone issues were there before my surgery, BTW. {sigh}

Regarding B & V. Keep in mind the first year is a learning and growing year. What you see on B & V for folks in maintenance is probably not what we ate our first year post-op.

Good luck!

As to vitamins...start with the prepackaged from Vitalady OR make up your own based on this list:

http://www.gblcreations.com/Resources/Gina/ProgramDRNY_ERNY_ BPDDS3-2010.pdf

Once you get your surgery and get some post-op labs done, then start tweaking based on your labs.

Yes, you CAN buy from other places but supporting one of our own and supporting small business helps.

And there are a few things you can't find locally (unless you live locally to Vitalady) in the stores...you have to get them online.

As to protein coffee...Gina gave you her recipe...I just wing it with mine..mix half & half with a scoop of protein powder til it's a slurry, I add my splenda to the coffee not the slurry...then mix the slurry with the coffee. I tend to like "creamer" flavored coffee so I use plain vanilla protein powder.

And if you are like my husband, protein coffee isn't even an option...he drinks his black.
