Liquid diet
Very grateful i never had to do it for any of my surgeries.
You could ask if you can do solid protein as well as shakes up until a few days out... so SF greek yogurt, cottage cheese, fish, chicken, etc.
Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin. I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby. 5 years out from revision to VSG. Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(
Don't eat solid anything. The point is to clean out your digestive track before they slice and dice on it.
Pudding, jello are better options. Also, I could have juices (and I drank a ton), and Ensure drinks (did a ton of those), and protein powder shakes. Popsicles are good also.
Surgeons want different things. Mine didn't make me diet. I had a liquid diet for 5 days before surgery, but that is to move the tonnage of food that sits in your digestive system. I also had to do a major clean out 48 hours before surgery. The kind that makes it impossible to leave your bathroom for a day. That sucked.
But it was all necessary, since I used the month before surgery literally scarfing down anything that didn't move or I could waddle after and catch. I ate like it was the Last Dinner.
I varied the temp of items eaten. Like... I froze the SF pudding, drank broth from won ton soup (Chinese delivery) that will make you thirsty to drink more good side effect. Took canned soups and pureed them ( asked dietician if that was OK for veg and noodle soups) SF popsicles were a life saver, SF jello always had a few flavors made, mixed some with cool whip to make it frothy. This help clean out the system and shrink the liver prior to surgery. Not easy but the hunger pains diminish - and good start for post op eating. Good luck Keep us informed.
