Advise and my seminar experience!!!
Hi A.C.! I was interested in reading your posts. I've got a question (if you don't mind) and an idea - maybe. You wrote:
My case is much more complicated because of other digestive issues that do not have to do with the DS but the acid production has brought into play and the DS has made it worse.
Did you have these digestive issues and acid issues before your DS?
My idea was: how about sticking a pack of matches in your waistband for those times when you head to the bathroom and can't get to your purse. You could even cut a pack of matches into half or thirds and stick it in your bra. I used to work with a gal who sewed little pockets on the insides of her clothes for something she had to carry with her all the time. Anyhow, matches work really well to cover up stink.

Hey J.G.
I did not have acid reflux or this acid production prior to my surgery. I would have the occasional heartburn. So, it's very strange. I did have Diverticulitis prior to surgery. I was mild LI (haven't had real milk for years). I had not had but one flare up since 2010, which was May 2012. I took the CT Scan w/report to the surgeon. He told me "I've seen it healed up after the DS, nothing to worry about". It came back with a vengeance! The overproduction of acid is wreaking havoc going through my limbs & colon. My stomach which is the smallest (30F Bougie) it can be is overproducing acid. I am going to a new GI Dr who deals with only WLS patients in about 70% of his practice. He's going to use a larger balloon to dilate me and the surgeon is going to be present to make sure there is not a stricture starting to happen at the bottom part of my stomach going into my alimentary limb. It appears from the Endoscope I had 2 months ago, it's smaller. They are going to try to figure out where the acid is coming from. I even wrote a 2 page paper for my CRS surgeon about what I think. He said "You are right on target" I'm not going to get into it on here. Too long. Let me just say, I researched, searched, asked questions... My GI Dr said, you are really onto something with this. Crazy how my life has changed... :-)
It's funny you bring the match thing up. We have been a non-smoking facility for years, as of Jan 1 last year, the whole property is. In our department, we only have one smoker and it is not me. She has to go out to her car and drive to the edge of the property to have a smoke on her break. Anyhoo, I wanted to make sure that if I lit a match, that no fire alarm would go off. I asked the security supervisor. He was hillarious. He had the most puzzled look on his face and said "Now, you've lost all this weight you are going to take up smoking?" I said "No". I was just wondering what would happen. If a fire alarm would go off. He said "Yes, if a match is lit, it will go off in the bathrooms. How else would we stop employees from smoking." He turned around when he was walking out of the office and said. "Make me a promise, don't start smoking." I said "No worries". It was humorous! You and I had the same idea!
The great thing is... I laugh about it all now... I deal and go on... I've got in my Fage Greek yogurt this morning with protein powder and sugar free caramel syrup... Tasted amazing! Now, I'm drinking my water... Am planning on trying the 4 nut thin crackers w/cheese on top for a snack then lunch is my Orange Shake. I'm creative with my protein! I get it in no matter what!!!
BTW, my boss calls me the "gourmet shake lady". I have given them taste samples. They cannot believe the taste. More to come on that another day ;-)
OMG, loves me some Fage with sugar free carmel syrup! What brand is your syrup?
I think this security dude is being "macho man" and giving you a bunch of crap. Ha, pun intended! I doubt that a couple of matches is going to set off the alarm. Want me to test it tomorrow at home? Anyhow by the time it reaches the ceiling you'll be long gone, right? Be daring. LOL
Sorry about all this acid junk. I can tell you I've read on this board about many folks whose acid problem went away as they got further out from surgery. Your only at 10 months so maybe in time things will get better....Let me know what they find in your upcoming procedure.

The Walmart by me now carries FAGE 2% for $1.26 each... I was so excited! The Smuckers Sugar Free Caramel Syrup. It's made with splenda so does not affect the gurgles for me! I don't know what my thing is right now, I have to have it every day. LOL!
The other thing that I am into with the FAGE yogurt (thank you MajorMom for this addiction). I add Almond Milk or Coconut Milk, then put in protein powder (either unflavored or if I'm in a chocolat-y mood), then let it set... It's like a mousse! Then, also, there are some Vinagrette's I've added. It takes a tiny bit. I just bought some Blueberry Vinagrette. It doesn't add a lot of carbs but a little added with some fresh Blueberries... It's wonderful!
They call me the gourmet shake lady at work... They can't believe what I do with protein shakes. My boss says "my sig other's shakes never taste like these"
Between Shakes & Fage... I'm rollin the protein in... LOL!
Just my luck, the alarm really would go off... LOL!
The acid is a big deal, we are trying to get it under control. To say the least, it's difficult to deal with at times.

I was 48 when I made the decision to have the DS. I had thought about WL Surgery for at least 5 years, My BFF and her hubby did the sleeve 4 yrs ago now, she lost 70lbs he lost 110lbs, they have both maintained their weight loss. With my new job at that time, I could only have one weight loss surgery in a lifetime. I thought, this is my chance. There cannot be room for error. I do not want to have regain.
When I made this decision, it was "well thought out". It was without a doubt, the wrong choice for me!
Through the lemons, I am making lemonade ... I've become very passionate about helping DSr's as well as Sleevies...So my journey in life is taking a different route than planned... :-)
There is no value in discussing the DS further with Dr. Kathouda, with or without your husband. His (meaning the doc's) mind is closed.
I do think there is great value in bringing your husband to your consult with Dr. Crookes, who can discuss all potential options and the pros and cons with you both in a more open minded fashion. Going to see a surgeon who has the express desire only to talk you out of an option that he recommends for absolutely no one regardless of their medical condition or personal cir****tances makes no sense to me. He's already had his shot at you. That's enough.

I was lucky that Dr Smith reassured my SO that the surgery was no more dangerous than the RnY and that the complication rate in HIS OR was the same. He also told my SO that the switch part of the DS is being done in Europe to cure Type II Diabetes and that was all my SO needed to hear. He was totally on board after that.
You need to stick to your guns and just keep feeding your husband the truth. And don't waste your time with that doctor who doesn't know HOW to do a DS.
Best wishes,
Becky
