Protein?

Hi Peyton. I love your name!
I know that you can drink protein shakes after surgery. I did hear a few people say not to buy in bulk because your tastes (and ability to tolerate) changes after surgery.
I have been trying the different protein drinks out there. So far my favorite is muscle milk (not the light). I like the chocolate and I think the regular only has a few calories more but keeps me full until lunch if I eat it for breakfast.
My surgeon gave me a whole list of protein drinks and how many grams of protein they are. I tried one yesterday that had 30 grams but my belly was super cranky after I ate it.
In terms out how much protein, I think that is based on your body weight.
For me, the NUT said if I have DS it would probably be in the 90 G a day range.
I don't know the official answer but I think at some point you are going to want to make sure you are getting plenty of it to keep things moving or bulk it up depending on your needs. I think the others will be able to better answer this questions. Best of luck to you.

Before surgery, I tried a lot of different ones. I bought a lot of one particular brand, after surgery, I couldn't keep it down. I kept trying after surgery. I finally landed with Unjury Medical Grade Protein. It is what works for me. I did my first protein bar a couple of months ago.
I do 3 protein shakes a day and 1 protein greek yogurt a day, then food.
Fiber is important but not to worry about right after surgery.
I have not found a protein shake that I love. Muscle Milk high protein is the only one I can tolerate. And I eat a lot of Greek yogurt. I am trying every "regular" source of protein- meat, poultry, cheese, eggs- so I don't have to rely on the shakes. Blechhhhhh. Also, there is Isopure 40 grams protein, which is a clear drink, fruity flavors. Made me gag as well. Many have suggested putting the protein powders into foods to boost your protein intake. I haven't tried that yet.
30 by 30, 60 by 60 and 90 by 90 with more than that for life.
Chike was one protein shake I could tolerate (very very cold water). It had more carbs than others, but I had to make that trade off to get in the protein until I could eat more.
Almost 4 years out I got away from shakes and made "cake shakes" for a long time. Then I quit those. Now I am trying to lose about 5 lbs so I'm back on the cake shakes to keep me off the damned candy. I am a candy addict.

MY DOCTOR TOLD ME TO GET IN 100 GRAMS A DAY. I GET IN MORE THAN THAT. I AM 8 WEEKS POST OP. I DON'T DRINK SHAKES OR SHOTS TO GET MY PROTEIN IN. I EAT FOOD THAT IS PROTEIN ALL DAY LONG. THAN AT NIGHT I GET TO EAT POTATO OR VEGGIES. AT FIRST I HAD TO DO PROTEIN SHOTS THOUGH BECAUSE I COULDN'T EAT ENOUGH. THE GENERAL RULE OF THUMB IS 30 GRAMS 30 DAYS..60 GRAMS 60 DAYS..90 GRAMS 90 DAYS.
