Sleeve is NOT a sleeve!

Oh my goodness! I did the upper GI barium swallow this week. My sleeve is a jacked up hourglass shaped stomach. It's a hot mess! Doesn't even look like a stomach.....or a sleeve. No wonder I have horrible acid reflux, and vomiting! I have no idea what happened but I am super excited to get the DS. Prayers for not needing blood transfusions this time and that everything goes amazingly well. June 19 baby!!!

My understanding of this type of occurrence is this is something that happens frequently with band to sleeve conversions.  I am not a Dr, just know by what I have seen and heard on the many support groups I am on.

Who is your surgeon doing the DS?  It may be something that needs to be taken care of before having the DS.

Good luck with your journey!

My DS surgeon will be Dr. Stewart. He requested the upper GI for this reason. I'll be interested to hear what he thinks when he gets the results Monday.

Dr Stewart in Denton?  He is who did my surgery.  Who did your original sleeve in the DFW area?

I hope and pray that you end up ok.

Please ask him about "his sleeve".  He does a sleeve different than other Dr's with the DS.  He does a long tube.  Ask him his reason, and if this is what he is going to do to you.  What are your chances with having the kind of sleeve he does with it being the way it is and gastroparesis later on (say 8 yrs out).  He probably will tell you it's not going to be affected.  Do your research for CLICK HERE so that you can know and understand.

Having a DS is not going to help your acid production.  You need to work with a GI Dr who knows Bariatric surgery to get it under control.  Mine was mild pre-op, now I overproduce and take much more than a normal DS'r for PPIs.  If you are already having acid problems, the DS is not going to make a difference with that.  IMHO, I am not a Dr, just an educated DS patient who has had to learn everything (a lot of it the hard way).

Best of luck to you.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Before I did my sleeve to DS I had the swallow to look for the same thing.  My surgeon said he'd revise my sleeved stomach if need be, but mine was ok, just bigger than expected.  (No surprise there...totally explained my regain.)

I'll keep you in my prayers, for sure!  Please keep us updated...

Hey Tonya, I got my sleeve reconstruction because I stared to gain weight. I was sticking to the diet in general but I wasn't eating enough to trigger a 50lb weight gain. I went to a Dr in Mexico and he should me the my sleeve had become like a hour glass....he fixed my sleeve and I decided to get the DS.

I heard the the weight lost will be slow. What has been your experience?
