Heavier after DS Surgery???

I had my DS surgery a week ago and I was up 1 pound when I returned home.  In the past week, I've been getting my water in as I can and eat mainly 500-700 calories or whatever protein I'm able to get down.  I'd not weighed myself since this morning (3 days) and I'm down about 4.5 pounds.  I know I should not be complaining, and am still very swelled in the upper stomach area, however will I start dropping once the swelling subsides?

Any insight would be appreciated!!

You always come home heavier because of the fluids in the hospital, you will start dropping any day now...dont' worry about calories just count your protein intake. Don't worry.

No worries...in a few weeks you'll probably chuckle when you look back at this!  You really are very swollen and inflamed inside, and your body is in shock.  Ride it out and relax.

Best wishes!

Thanks to both!!  It's just so difficult to see the higher number.  I've stopped weighing myself and will only do every few days.

Sipping water with lemon all day and try to get 30g protein (30g in 30days).

If I'm reading your ticket right, you only had 31 pounds to lose when you had your DS. Don't count on losing a large number of pounds quickly---the people you see losing 20-30 pounds the first month are people who start out needing to lose 100, 150, even 200 pounds. YOU should look forward to losing 30 pounds in about six months.

I too was shocked when I started gaining weight...didn't realize that would happen. I had to get on a diuretic because my arms legs and abdomen continued to swell. Within a couple of days the swelling went down and so did the weight. You are going to be fine! Congrats on doing the surgery and good luck on your journey.

Thanks so much!  The swelling is going down, but very slowly.

This is normal.  You've had a lot of fluids pumped in you and your body has a lot of healing to do.  My advice would be to stay away from the scale until you are 1 month post op.  Weighing every day/week will stress you out,. With me stress tend to slow down healing and weight loss.  I'm sure it's the same way with others.

Congrats on making it through surgery!

Thanks so much and congratulations on your AMAZING success!!  I'll weigh every few weeks---makes sense as stress is not a good thing at this point in recovery.
