Feedback on foodplan please!

You guys have been great.  I always get good feedback.  You are often more helpful than my surgeon.

I have joined Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous because I didn't ever get to my goal weight after my DS - at some point carbs do count and that just happens to be my favorite food group!!  This is more or less what I've been eating:

B: 1 oz. oats, 1 T butter, 8 oz. yogurt (greek), 6 oz. fruit

Protein Shake

L:4 oz. protein, 1 T fat, 6 oz. cooked vegetable, 6 oz. fruit

Protein Shake

D: 4 oz. protein, 2 T fat, 6 oz cooked vegetable, 6 oz. salad

When I do a spot check I see that I am eating 100 grams of protein and 80-90 grams of carbs a day.  I recently did my labs and my numbers have improved significantly.  Vitamin D, Vitamin B, potassium, calcium, and ferritan are all up.  The only number out of normal range is my creatinine.  I don't have the results handy so I don't remember the exact number, but it is not significantly low.

So, my question is should I increase my protein?  I asked my surgeon and he said that he "didn't want me chasing a specific number".  I weigh 176 pounds.  I've lost 20 pounds since I started following this plan March 14th.  But I only lost 2.8 pounds during the entire month of May.  There were a few days in May that my carbs were significantly higher than the 80-90 grams.  Do you think my carbs are too high or should I attribute the slow weight loss to my "bad" days?

Thanks for all your help.  I really appreciate your experience and insight,

dawn

I think 20 lbs since March is great.  But if you want to try something different how about some ham for breakfast instead of the oats and some sugar-free jello instead of the fruit....  Is your protein shake in a snack time slot?  Maybe you could double it??

Have you tried upping your fat? Only 1 T with breakfast, 1 T with lunch, and 2 T with dinner.  You only absorb about 20% of the fat...up it...and see what happens.

Like for lunch take some luncheon meat (turkey, ham, whatever) and either wrap it around a cheese stick, or spread some cream cheese on it and roll it up.  Also makes a great snack.

Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

You might want to consider doing a 20 carb or less induction phase (Atkins) for 2 weeks.  Not only does it jump start your weight loss, but it purges the carbs out of your system.  Once you go through the purge, the cravings for carbs stop.  It was the only time I could go months without any cravings.  I could walk by bagels or waffles and not even think about it.

12 oz of fruit a day is a lot of carbs.

What she said. I would drop my carbs down and start the ketosis burn again.

That much fruit would make me gain for sure. The sugar in fruit is simple sugar and that is the form the body uses first. The more ready sugar, fruit , you give your body, the less stored fat iit will burn. That means less weight lossyou have to consider that e ven with the malabsorption of the dS, we absorb 100% of the carbs( sugar in fruit) that we eat. Gl

If you sleeve can handle 16 oz in one meal then I def think you should up your protein. I'm lucky if I can fit 3 oz in one sitting. Id cut the fruit to maybe two days a week. or alturnanate fruits with veggies every other day. OR cut it altogether and replace it with CHEESE.. then you get protein AND fat!

If you can eat 6oz of cooked veggies then you could eat 6 oz of meat instead. I bet that would help you lose faster. But you are doing great!
