Help, nausea...

I have been feeling nauseous for about a week now, but every day it has been getting worse.  Tonight I had to throw up.  I am about 3 months out and Im still only eating greek yogurt for all my meals.  I am not getting in the protein I need or the water I should be getting, but can this really cause this feeling?  Its like I have gas bubbles in my stomach that need to come out and when they cant is when I feel nauseous.  Like theres a backup somewhere in my stomach.  Could there be a blockage when Ive just been doing yogurt?  Any ideas?

Three months out and only able to handle yogurt?  Get thee hence to your doctor, because something does not sound right.  Do you take an acid inhibitor, like Nexium or Prevacid?  The gas bubbles you mention sounds like GERD, or acid buildup. Below, I ask a few questions, but based on what you put out there, I am reaching for straws, and it definitely sounds like you need to be under the supervision of a professional immediately.

By one month out, you should have been able to try other soft foods, and by 2 months out, almost no major restrictions.  With your yogurt, do you add fruit?  I often added bananas, not realizing how many carbs I was adding to my diet.  Now I limit the fruits, and the gas pains have dropped.  Do you have a nutritionist that you work with?  A  nutritionist may have some suggestions, and would let you know what foods to slowly introduce to your diet.

Are you getting enough water in daily?  If you are not at 64 oz., this can be the culprit.  Also, have you started on your vitamin regimen, and what form do you take your vitamins? I started taking the Vitalady packs at 6 weeks out, and they threw me for a major loop for almost two weeks before my body adjusted.  You mentioned that you are not getting enough water or protein in.  Dehydration can be a major problem.  Also, if you are not getting in enough protein, your body can go into starvation mode, which is definitely not healthy, and can lead to serious hospitalization.   Do you take protein shakes?  Also, look at your use of artificial sweeteners.  I developed extreme sensitivity to all artificial sweeteners.  Now I use blue agave, and only a teaspoon or less in a shake or bottle of iced tea.  Good luck, and I hope you can find a good path forward!

If you had surgery close by, then you need to go straight to your doctors office and be seen. If your surgeon is not close, then go to ER. Do not wait until something that maybe a quick fix turns into a major catastrophe!

Yup...ER or surgeon PRONTO. It does sound like GERD To me too but I would not risk anything and go see someone.

I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly, and I don't mean to dump on you when you are not feeling well...but you are at least partially responsible for not feeling well.

First, as others have pointed out, you are not getting in nearly enough protein. If you are not already protein deficient, you will be soon, and protein deficiency is a very serious problem. It's much, much easier to prevent protein deficiency than it is to fix it, so start NOW. If you can't eat more protein, drink it. There are dozens of protein drinks out there, there has to be something you cana tolerate. This will also help with your intake of liquids.

Reflux - often reflux can feel like nausea in post-ops. If you are not on a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) already, get on one pronto. You can even get prilosec over the counter to get yourself started if you can't get a prescription right away. This might help a lot.

Next, you have a surgeon that hopefully is close enough for you to get help from him or his practice. Most bariatric surgeons are not the greatest at vitamin advice but they do know about things like PPI's, protein, hydration and the like. GET HELP!

Lastly, you mentioned in a previous post that you weren't sure you were properly absorbing you psych meds, or something along those lines. This can be fixed! Your psych doc can check blood levels of drugs and adjust doses as needed. Or he/she can try different meds that might be better absorbed. Depression could be part of the reason you are not feeling well and not taking proper care of yourself. It is not reasonable to expect a psych doc to understand the malabsorption of the DS unless you make the effort to educate him or her.

There is help available for you, but it is YOUR responsibility to advocate for yourself and get that help. This is the committment you made to yourself when you signed on for bariatric surgery. It's fine to ask questions or seek support here, but only you and your medical providers can prescribe for you. Reach out to them NOW.

I was thinking, since you can eat the yogurt, why dont you get some of the Unjury brand unflavored protien, and add it to your yogurt.  Im onley three weeks out and Ive never had to do that, but Ive seen others here that mix it with alot of different things to get their protien in.  Best of luck to you...  Im so sorry you are having such a hard time.....
