Worried my recovery is too good to be true

My surgery was last Tuesday and I was sent home from the hospital on Thursday.  I haven't thrown up or been nauseous once - neither at hospital or at home.  Haven't had any diarrhea (actually no BMs at all, but I'm not feeling constipated.)  I'm able to drink about 80 oz water daily.  I haven't had any problems climbing stairs or taking showers by myself since I got home.  Today I drove myself to the store, went in and got what I needed, then drove home.  Getting up from sitting almost isn't a problem anymore.  Still taking pain med, but mainly because I'm afraid not to.

My question is, has anyone else had it this easy and did it stay that way?  I'm almost afraid to start next phase because it could jeopardize things.

This is not meant to brag.  I'm just worried that my body may make up for it later...

P.S.  Did anyone else notice how >50% of the commercials are about food?????  That's so freaking annoying that when you're only clear liquid only :-(((((

You're doing great. I didn't have any issues either but once the bowels wake up be mindful of lactose in milk and gluten in just about everything--sugar alcohols aren't any fun either. I was able to go back to work half days at 2 weeks post-op.

I had no complications. My bowels had woke up though so I did have the diarrhea. No NV, and hardly any pain accept at night when I tried to lay down and sleep because of the pull. I could drink quite a bit of water a week out as well. I went back to work full time, two weeks post op.

You are doing great!

I did great too...so your recovery is not out of the norm...just remember, most of those who come here to post usually need help..

I will caution you about taking pain meds and driving...that is the main reason we are told not to drive after a surgical procedure.

People are funny that way. I had very few problems. On the very good days I wonder did they do anything at all or is it just a big hoax. Of course then I look at weight lost and think it is just that they did a great job. Enjoy it. I'm sure there will be some ups and downs but maybe not. Someone has to be on that end of the curve.

ROFL Pete A. !  I had the same thought cross my mind a couple of times!  Good to know I'm not the only one.  I was out of the hospital 48 hours post op also.  I WALKED from my room to the car...you should have seen that nurse's face!  (I'm a nurse too, btw.)  Aside from sleeping a lot the first couple of weeks, and needing pain meds for about a week, I was almost "normal".  (I was 2 stage though...stomach was already done, so liquids were NO problem!)  I didn't care about the food for the first week, but after that omgosh!  Everything on TV looked amazing.  Weird thing though...now that I can eat, most things don't taste as good as they used to, and don't really appeal to me anymore. I kind of have to make myself just pick something and eat it when I'm hungry.  I think that's a good thing, right?

I'm very please to hear about others who have had an easy time.  I had a super easy time after my c-section and my sleeve surgery too.  I have no idea why some struggle so and seem to have every rough complication there is, and some of us seem to sail through everything.  If I knew why I could be rich, right?  I'm a post-op nurse, and I can tell you that everyone is different, even right out of the OR.  2 people, same age, gender, surgery, surgeon, etc. can be lying right next to each other in PACU, and one will be in terrible pain, vomiting, crying, bleeding, whatever, and the other is sitting up chatting with you.  Weird.  As others have said, count your blessings!

Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted.

Yours,

Tonya

I had it this easy after both my VSG and my Ds. I am still having it easy. We are blessed and you are perfectly normal.

Re the bowel issue ...a week is too long to not have a stool. You need to get a stool softerer and a laxative to get going...
