Is there a difference between hemmoroids (sp?) and fissures?

I have never had anything like this. So are they two separate issues? And how do I know the difference?

All I know my butt hurt Saturday after my first BM and I noticed that I had a little thing down there (gross I know). I have been using Prep H and it seems to help and it is a little smaller today.

Any help appreciated - thank you.

Hemmoroids are when your intestines start to drop through your anus.  Usually caused by bearing down during a BM - which you should not do.  Prep H will help with this.

Fissures are a tear in the anus.  I had one recently.  Excruciating.  It felt like I was pooping glass shards.  It scared me to go to the bathroom, and I would cry out.  That's how bad it was.  I got mine from constant diarrhea (I know, makes no sense).  Changing the diet and using wet wipes was how I got rid of it.  And I take care to not get one again.

A fissure does not have anything hanging down there.

Meant to say not that hemmies aren't as painful as a fissure.

FYI- hemorrhoids is NOT your intestines dropping into your rectum.  Hemorrhoids are varicose veins in your rectum.  Some people have hemorrhoids and never know it.  Then one day, for a variety of reasons- frequent diarrhea being one of them- a varicosity can become inflamed and painful.  Sounds like that's what you have.  I have had 2 excised under local in the dr's office at 2 different times.  That was only because they didn't respond to topical treatments.

Fissures are tears in your anus or rectum, and yes, by God, they can have you screaming in pain!  I have also been treated for one of those (some of us are just lucky), and happily it resolved with a prescription creme suppository.

Yes, big difference between hemmroids and fissures. I just now have recovered from a fissure, after having been misdiagnosed by 2 doctors way back in January! They both diagnosed small hemmroids which I'm sure I probably do have, however I also had a fissure that caused me EXCRUTIATING pain for over almost 5 full months before I was finally diagnosed properly by a Colorectal Surgeon. If you even think you have a fissure see a surgeon, even better see a Colorectal surgeon for proper diagnoses even if you don't want to go thru surgery. They can diagnose you properly. Had I gone to one a long time ago I would not have suffered as long as I did. My fissure totally disrupted my life, and good thing I'm retired or I would have most certainly lost a job as I could NOT function til in the afternoons when my pain would finally subside. IT was THE most horrible experience of my entire life. The pain was incredible and I cried a river!  To my complete surprise I did not need surgery after all. The ointment my doctor prescribed worked wonders within about 3 weeks of faithfully using it two to three times a day. This is the name of the ointment, it must be made at a compounding pharmacy. L-Pentx/Lido/Nifed 2%/2%/0.2%. I also had to greatly increase the amount of fiber I was eating, no red meat, no dairy, and no bread while healing. I do eat those things now but very limited. Eating lots more fiber now. Good luck to you!

Thanks to everything. Up until today it was not painful to sit, but now it is. My Dr said just to keep using the Prep H and soothing wipes for another couple weeks and if not better he will refer me to a surgeon. This sucks.
