Remove Gallbladder or Not?

If you decide against having it out ask about Actigall (I forget the real name) post op. It is a medicine that is supposed to prevent gall stones during heavy weight loss. My surgeon wouldn't take the gall bladder out but prescribed that to lessen the risk of stones.

My surgeon was great but  I think the hospital would love to charge for a second surgery.

My doctor recommended and took mine out. If there is ever a problem it quickly eliminate the possibility of that being the problem.

I was prescribed Actigall for six months after my DS surgery.  However, that didn't prevent my gall bladder from having issues of its own at about 11 months post-op.  It was eventually removed lap at 19 months post-op.  I had already lost more than 100# at the time of this operation and it was a far easier operation than when I had the DS.  I was in the hospital only 28 hours and then back to work 11 days later.  I haven't had any issues since.

If your surgeon doesn't charge for the removal of the gall bladder at the same time as the DS surgery, then go for the removal!  You will be glad you did!

Thank you ALL for your replies! I've decided to have that pesky thing taken out. I had an ultrasound to see if there are any stones pre-op but I haven't seen the results of that test yet. Surely there aren't any since I've had no pain. Either way, I'm going for the removal. I don't need that thing. And I certainly don't need issues with it later.

Thank you all again!!!
