If the RNY failed you and your friend one time, what on earth makes you think it will work the second time?  Not gonna happen.  At best with a revision to reduce the size of your pouch, you may lose 20 pounds.  Not worth the risk at all.  Now a revision to DS is the most complicated revision and requires one of only a handful of surgeons in the US to do.  Revisions to DS from RNY do lose slower than virgin DSers, but we still lose.  My lowest weight with my RNY was 192 (for about 5 seconds) and then I regained back up to 250 no matter what I did.  My original RNY was in May of 2008.  I stopped losing about 8 months out and then promptly began regaining.  I am a super absorber, so my body adjusts to malabsorption fairly quickly (damn body!).  My highest weight was around 320.  My revision to DS was in April of 2011.  I was around 250 surgery day and am currently maintaining in the 170's.  My lowest was 162.  I am happy where I am at and getting the revision was the best decision of my life.

Again, there are only a handful of surgeons that can do this HIGHLY complicated revision....so whoever you are looking at going to, list their name here and we can tell you if they can do it or not.  This is nothing to take lightly.

Well for me the rny worked my highest was 325 n I got down to 170 PDS that was 10 years ago. I had twins gained 123 PDS n now weigh 270. So with diet n exercise I'm losing slowly so I opted to get a revision,,,. Now in terms on my friend she was 489 PDS n she's down to 296. That was 8 years ago......

I originally had the RNY and ended up with a fistula- a complication from the RNY. Not all revisions are the extended RNY- it depends on the reason for the failure in the first place. Had I had a revision from an RNY back to the RNY they would have redone the original surgery so that it worked without making it a distal. I chose to have a revision to the DS with no regrets. My surgeon is not on the "vetted" list but he was outstanding and did a great job with my revision. I have lost almost 40 lbs in less than 3 months. I was at 280 day of surgery and am now down to about 242. I am so grateful that I had the DS- its a much better surgery and I feel better over all.
Goodluck. Just continue to do your research and you will know if it is right for you.

I did not realize you are in the DFW area.  There are several surgeons who do the DS but do not advertise it.  However, they are just as good if not better than Stewart.

Dr Provost who competes with Stewart in Denton is a good example.

Dr Stewart

Then there are those who will not touch another surgeon's patient.  You have to choose your surgeon wisely in general.  The DFW area is very political (I know this first hand) so make sure whoever you go with, you are going to stay with.

UT Southwestern is amazing.  However, they push RNY over DS.  If you choose them, you are in good hands but must be firm, you don't want them to get in there and then tell you "I'm sorry, we couldn't do this so we did this."

Choose wisely!
