Hi, I am having my ds surgery on Monday. Anyone have any tips or suggestions on recovery or the weight loss journey? I am nervous!

I felt great post surgery then 3 days later I had an emergency appendectomy. If it weren't for the set back I would be doing great. You will probably be tired, I have been. You will do great. I was a revision from band to ds. I'm really happy I did it.

Sorry to hear about the appendectomy. A lot of surgeons routinely remove the appendix and/or gall bladder at the time of DS surgery. Mine happens to do both, simply to avoid that possible need for another surgery.

For anyone considering DS surgery in the future, I would recommend having them removed at DS surgery time.

Search "DS & Gall bladder" or "DS & appendix" to read what others have posted on this topic.

Nativenewyorker, sorry this advice comes a little too late for you.

Just wanted to wish you luck with your surgery on Monday!

I remember the anxiety of the week before hitting me like a brick.  I had just been so excited up until then, so I was surprised to be so nervous.  I think it's all normal....but our minds mess with us sometimes.  I also realized during that week, how much I relied on food for comfort.  I had to do 5 days of liquids preop, so there went my security blanket!

You'll do great!

Drink plenty of fluids.  Being dehydrated can be a real b*tch!

If you feel nauseated, let the nurse know.  The nurse should administer anti-nausea meds in your IV or have you take them.

Your stomach will be so swollen that you may be able to take only a couple sips before experiencing discomfort.  That's OK.  Wait another 15-30 minutes and try again.  Repeat as necessary.

Walk the halls as much as you can.  I had to use a walker due to life-long balance issues when I first walked after surgery but was able to walk unaided a couple days later.

Best of luck!

Vicki
