Getting discouraged

I know that I am only 3 weeks out, but I am getting soooo discouraged! I am feeling so tired and nauseous with every meal that it is overwhelming.  I am barely staying hydrated let alone getting anywhere near enough protein.  All solid foods seem to sit so heavy in my stomach and make me so sick.  When does it seem to turn a corner?

dont get discouraged ur only 3 weeks out. it DOES get better with time. I am 6 weeks out. I was lucky not to have any nausea or vomiting at all with my surgery. I actually had 4 surgeries in !. My doctor told me it will take around 4 months for my stomach to heal completely. I am introducing solid foods one day at a time. I have come to find that i still cant handle most of them. It does hurt if i drink too much at once. i am sipping on water from the time i wake up til the time i go to sleep. everywhere i go i have a bottle with me so i am getting 8 to 10 glasses of water in. What kind of surgery did you have? i had a J tube for the first 3 weeks and gave my self protein shots. I now get enough protein in. I eat cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese, lean ground beef, yogurt and milk. I have tried some mashed potatoes and green beans. I still eat ice chips and sf popsicles. It takes time to heal and your doing great. Just remember the positive in life and let go of the negative. You can do this!!!!!

Stay up!

Remember the 30 days, 30 grams of protein, 60 days, 60 grams of protein, 90 days 90 grams of protein.

Be sure and take your vitamins as soon as you can!  Don't worry about solid foods.  Egg drop soup works wonders!  Protein shakes.

Water or whatever liquids you can tolerate!

Hang in there!

Please don't get discouraged! I am 10 weeks out. I am still right around 60 grams of protein and still struggle to get my water in. I think it took me up until 8 weeks to get rid of the nausea and I still have days when I get really tired but it all seems less and less every week. I feel so much better these past 2 weeks. I seem to have a lot more energy and I can now eat a lot of things I couldn't eat even several weeks ago. I still have issues with certain foods and some bother me one day and not the next. Some bother me at night but not in the daytime. My bowels are finally starting to get better and stabilize. Its all a work in progress and takes time. My surgeon thinks I am doing fine so I will go with that. You have a ton of healing to do so you just need to take it one day at a time. You will wake up one day and realize you have turned that corner but it may not be until you are6-8 weeks out. Be patient and get the rest and as much protein as you can so you can heal!

I am one week ahead of you.  My surgery was 4/29.  I have been sooooo nauseated and weak.  This past Friday was my first "good" day, and these past 2 days are definite improvements.  Still nauseated in the AM, but I have a feeling that's bc my belly is so empty.  I didn't know abt the 30/60/90 rule until I found this forum, and it definitely makes sense.  I was so overwhelmed and blue....its starting to pass.  I'm even considering going back to work a week earlier than planned.  Well, that's just today's thought.  I am actually starting to smile, which I hadn't done for 3 weeks.  Apparently, staying hydrated is your top priority....sip sip sip.

Keep us posted...our situations sound very similiar....and I will do the same.

You can plug along!  That's what these forums are for.  Vent if you need, encouragement if you need.  You are lucky to have a gifted surgeon who performed your procedure.

A lot is going on in your body right now.  It's got to get used to the changes.

Start your day out with this... Wake up, take a sip of water, take a deep breath... Say "I am going to be ok"...

Best of luck!  Keep us posted.

I honestly didn't feel like a normal person until around 10 weeks out. I was nauseated ALL the time, couldn't shower without throwing up! It was horrible. But I promise it gets better!!
