Lightweight, DS revision from RNY, and Mexico?

Has anyone here had revision fromRNY to DS? What was your BMI.

Mine is still pretty low...don't yell at me...but I'm gaining and I'm trying soooooooo hard not to. Obsessively. It's not working. I want revision before I'm morbidly obese again some day.

I know insurance won't cover so I'm looking at Mexico. Anyone go there? Was it lap or open?

Thanks!

Katie, my revision was from the lapband, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that there is NO revision surgeon in Mexico that is skilled at RNY to DS revision.

It's the most complicated revision to do and very few surgeons world wide are able to do it. So be warned, it is your life that they are taking in hand.

Darn. I just read about the doctor in brazil. I have a feeling no one will take me unless my BMI were 40 again.

revisions are not just about weight, they are about health.  there is (was) a DSer on here that was a ERNY to DS and if i remember her bmi was 18?, she got the DS to get healthy (and to gain weight, which she did), seeking healthy was her username  I had my DS with my bmi in the 30's also, only the obese community would consider that a lightweight -LOL   there are many on here that have gone for a DS below 40, many.  the ds is really customized, I have a longer cc as not to have as much malabsorption, etc.  There is one dr in Brazil I would use to do my DS, but I beleive dr M. only does virgin DS not rny to ds.  unfortunately years out (usually starting at 2) rny start to gain and some dont stop till they have regained everything.  there are rny to ds on this site.

Thanks. I love my thinner life. I work harder than anyone I know to keep it. Starting to lose faith without revision. I'm getting more lethargic. Joints starting to hurt again. Nothing that would encourage an American doctor to do the DS though.

no i completely understand, we don't need to talk about regain with rny, that is established, why should you wait till bmi of 35?  that is just dumb, unless there are other complications they will revise you at a low bmi, but i believe that is not your case.I am proactive too.  if you can afford it self pay, i would revise now....just me....i would go to Roslin in NYC, Keshashin in CA, start there...good luck

There is no one in Mexico doing RNY to DS revisions, which is a very complex and challenging operation. Band to DS in Mexico, yes, but not RNY to DS.

there are only a few DS surgeons in the USA who do this revision, and I have no idea whether or not they would be willing to do this operation at your present weight, given the significant risks involved. You would need to contact them individually to discuss your specific cir****tances and see what they say.

No need to yell. But any surgeon who would do a DS revision for a woman weighing 147 lbs. would have questionable judgement.

That was my weight two years ago. My signature isn't updated. Best not to judge too soon.

Dr. Keshishian in California is an expert at this revision, and is more liberal than most in accepting someone currently at a weight lower than the usual minimum BMI required.  Of course, this would entail paying US surgery prices.

Edited to add: he does the revision as an open surgery.
