Dr. Marchesini - Brazil - hypothetical question

I have a hypothetical question for those who have traveled to Brazil to Dr. Marchesini.

Suppose I were to have complications.  I've only saved up enough for the surgery, hotel, food, plane tickets, etc.  How does he handle those situations that were unpredictable when it comes to money? I'm sure he doesn't hold a patient hostage til he/she can pay him.. what happens? *scary thought*

Thank you in advance. :)

You will need to ask Dr. M that. There is one girl I know she had complications and was put in a theraputic coma for quit a while and was there with Dr. M I believe almost a month. Her father ended up flying to brazil to be with her and he loaned her the money to pay for the hospital and stuff.

There is just no way to know, Dr. M would be the best one to ask about that. He can at least give you an idea of what the protocol is.

He was my surgeon and I had no problems. I was revised from the lapband.

It would be a good idea to have a back-up plan.  Dr. M will take care of you but the hospital (after 2 weeks, I believe) and anything additional will be on you,  just as if you were in the States.

Maybe temporary medical insurance for travelers?? I am not sure how that works.

I would have borrowed the money from my dad if I had complications.

Talk to Dr. M and see what he says.

BEWARE - Medical travel insurance will not cover you for this as you are traveling for the purpose of obtaining medical care and also it would be related to a pre-existing condition that by that point will have changed within three months of your travel date.  Don't spend the money on the insurance.  You will have a false sense of security and have lost the amount of the premium.
