simple vs complex carbs

Sugar is sugar.  Some of of just takes a couple extra steps to process.  And all of it will stall your weight loss and keep you from reaching your goals.  There is no such thing as a 'good' carb.  Don't eat them.

Your DS doesn't equal mine, his, or hers.  Yes, I know there are more than one or two *****ached goal and ate whatever they please.  I hope you are one of them.  But don't count on it.  The truth of the matter is there does come a time when you will absorb more and your stomach will be larger.  Use this 'easy' weightloss time to learn how to lose, eat well, and avoid carbs.  Develop good habits now because you will need them later.

I've been around long enough to have seen quite a few of those superstars come back to the boards battling regain.  Mostly because things went so well for them they believed they were 'different'.  Fruit and milk were good for them.  They were the exception to the rule.  Wrong!

The best advice I can give anyone is just lose the weight.  Leave the carbs for later.  You will have the rest of your life to find what you can tolerate without gaining weight.  Every carb is an evil demon you need to fight until you are at goal or even better, 5 to 10% below goal to accommodate the bounceback.

Patty,

You always have a great way of putting things!  You are such a great resource on this board!

You are so correct... Dr Stewarts Nut told me to make my protein shakes with milk.  I said, 8oz has 12 grams of carbs.  She said, "You have to stop worrying".  I make mine with Almond Milk 1 gram of carb or Coconut Milk both unsweetened.  It's working for me.wink

One thing I don't get is Kefir.  It has so many carbs to a serving.  I understand that it is great for Probiotics in a natural way.  It has way too many carbs for a DSr to think about, yet a lot use it.  Wouldn't it sabatage our weight loss efforts?

I've never had kefir.  I use probiotic capsules that you have to refigerate.

I do eat yogurt, though, mostly Greek for the protein.

I have used whole milk and heavy cream for my shakes from jump street.  Lactaid milk at first, but since my system has aged, I can use straight whole milk with cream, no Lactaid.

It didn't sabotage mine one bit.  I drink kefir when I notice my bacteria getting out of balance.  It's a good quick hit and full of protein to boot.  It still takes me two sittings to down an entier bottle, or a few swigs at a time over the course of a day.
